Looks good to me, but if you plan to play a lot of games on this system, I would rethink the LCD monitor.

people keep tellng me that, is it really that bad? also why then are LCD'S so expensive if they look junky in games?

no I cant get a CRT because my parents want me to get a monitor that doesent create any radiation 🙂

The LCD technology itself is expensive...and you pay for the room that it saves you. The "refresh" rate for LCDs is not high enough for a smooth gaming experience....things tend to get blurry. It's perfectly fine for work, but not that good for games.

arent LCD monitor flicker free? soem people say that when they say games on a LCD everything is fine other dont.

Well, I don't know the case, not sold in germany, but from what I've read here in the forums it's a nice one. Just make sure the PSU is big enough (350watts+).

And I'm not familiar with EPOX-mobos. As above, many people use that brand and like it. But I'd stay away from AMD- or ALI-chipsets, VIA is the only choice. This I would call is first hand information and experience.

The rest is very well chosen, sounds really nice. I want one, too.

Yes, they are flicker free, but notice that I said "refresh rate" (with quotes). By this, I mean that the pixels are unable to keep up with the frame rate being sent to the screen, resulting in blurred images.

This is nothing to do with the "traditional refresh rate" that you get on CRT monitors, ie flicker free rates of 85Hz or whatever.

Agreed. LCDs are neat but I am far more impressed by a 21" screen. More useful too if you have the desktop real-estate.
Nothing beats size.... at least IMHO

the only reason why I am getting a LCD because my parents dont want any radiation coming from the monitor.

If you plan on fast action gaming, it is that bad. I strongly urge you to reconsider.

At the very least, go to a local computer store and see if they have a game (like Q3 or UT) on a PC that is attached to a LCD monitor. Than at least you will be spending your cash with your eyes open.

BTW - If your parents are that concerned about radiation et al, I urge them to turf their microwave oven and TV.

You can get the Antec case for about $80 at Microbarn.com, last time I checked. That's what I did. 🙂

Epsilon

I played Blood2 and Quake III at CompUSA on a Sony LCD and it was awful! If you can imagine that annoying look of your mouse cursor on your laptop - but the whole screen.

dump the flat screen...id kill for a 21" crt as i would only shoot someone in the leg for a lcd...

would wait just a bit longer for dual amd?? once you go dual, u dont go back..

maybe a 5.1 setup?

You can get that case for around 80 at microbarn. You can also get a p4 for about 50 bucks cheaper if you look on pricewatch. Otherwise very nice system.

Tell your parents you found a special radiation free 21 inch CRT...

You should either a) get a good CRT or b) ditch the geforce3 and get a cheaper videocard (kyro or radeon) as you wont be doing heavy gaming.

<< You can also get a p4 for about 50 bucks cheaper if you look on pricewatch. Otherwise very nice system. >>

Yeah and you can also pay more for RDRAM and a P4 mobo and have a slower system to boot... great deal!

I'm not to sure if a 300w is good enough for Athlon@1,4 +Overclock?, CD-RW, Gforce3,Fast harddrive +++ I would go with 400+ if I was U.
And why is your parents so afraid of radiation from a standard monitor?? what's bad with a little sunburn without any need to go out?😀
If they are so afraid where do U guys live?? in a treehut?? They should also be worried about the radon radiation that come out of your house/apartment.
Just my thoughts.
