No need to get hostile... I was not flaunting how much money I had I just stated I didn't mind the splurge to get what I liked. I just have this tick in my head where I have to get the fastest, best of everything or I feel worthless... Call it inferiority complex or whatever I just like have the best (well as close to best as I can get)... I wasn't justifying myself to you guys I was justifying myself to well... myself. You kinda see where I'm coming from? If I sounded like a paper a-hole trying to talk my way out of expenditures to which I didn't know if they provided a performance boost, then I wouldn't have gotten that particular part. But I think I justifyied them to the person that matters to me... me. sorry for sounding so selfish but this is my first build of a rig that I will have actually paid for and built by MYSELF with no one elses help so I'm just trying to get an idea of what the rest of the community thought. I didn't mean it in any way to show off or brag (Which is kinda ironic isin't that why you people get cases with shiny lights and windows so people can see the innards of your machine; tell me how that is NOT bragging)... and it's not evil. People want to show off what they have. Hey its a human thing. So don't take it so personally.

if you get a nec 3520A
you can use a ide to sata adapter for it if you really don't like the ide ribbon cable.

Alright man, you're right, the only person that this really needs to be satisfied is you, and I appologize for saying you were just trying to brag, and even if you were, I understand, because when I throw that kind of cash around I like to brag too.

...But, you've got to understand, we're trying to help you out. Take for instance your video card choice. It likely will not be extremely long before we see 512mb cards. They will probably start at about the $600 price point I would imagine. Now you've got a game like Doom 3, which only recommends it's ultra settings for 512mb cards. What then is the point of spending $600 on a card that can't even play the newest games at their full capacity? Why not spend $450 instead and get yourself a card that is going to do just as well? I mean, I just don't get it...but like you said, it only matters to you, and if you're happy with what you get for what you spend, then by all means spend it and be happy, and don't worry about any of us.

cmon ITm ur takin all the fun out of building it though! 😛

agh, such haters lol... you know how many trips to the titty bar I forfieted to save up 😛

yes I know the vid card was a bit over the top skew, but I'm hoping I can get atleast 400 to 450 back when I sell it for a 512mb X950... Or maybe the price point will stay the same and the x950 will be like 1000 bucks like that Quadro... dear lord. That's entering the "do dododo dododo" THE FX-55 ZONE "dodododd"... There's something on the wing! some...THING! 😛

Fair enough man, all I have to say then is enjoy it. And for the record, I actually kind of like that case...but I've always been partial to blue.

yay you and waylay are my only supporters... 😛

But then again I've always been the anti-conformist... even in my days of school... teacher say go left id go right just to see how bad id piss her off... I guess I still have that stuck in my head... they say OMG hedious case I say "cool" and buy it lol... Just my way of saying "F You" to the world I guess lol.

Go with the NEC 3520A. It's a nice burner that supports everything out there. You can buy a SATA to IDE converter for roughy $20. The Plextor you were planning to buy is really doing the same thing except the converter is on chip rather than an external add on. Even with the SATA to IDE converter, the NEC 3520A will run you about $100 vs $145 for the Plextor. There isn't going to be a major difference in terms of burn times or compatibility between the two as both are quality drives. The Plextor has brand name recognition from the CD burner days so they are more expensive. Newegg's search engine seems to be down at the moment but last I chekced they had 3 different SATA to IDE converters.

If you plan to do overclocking, then get the Athlon64 3200. You should be able to very easily overclock it to 3500 speeds or even 3800 speeds. If not stick with the 3500. You can still overclock the 3500 to 3800 or even 4000 speeds depending on luck. That's with the stock heatsink and fan.

Case wise...that's not the case I woulda went with. But as you yourself pointed out, it's you who should be happy with the case. Nobody is going to be looking at it but you and ultimately that's the only person you have to please. The Antec P160 I bought was called ugly by some. The bottom line is I'm happy with my purchase and that's all that matters.

As have been pointed out, for the price, the performance gained using high end RAM is not worth the cost. Get a decent set of valueram such as (but not limited to) the Corsair ones and they will perform only slightly worse than the high end stuff. It's only when you do some serious overclocking on the RAM do the high end stuff really seperate itself.

As far as your video card choice, I think it's a bit insane but hey, it's your money. I myself have a $400 video card and I'm sure lots of people would call me insane for spending that much on a video card. Still, I think the performance gained from this card does not justify the price premium.

That aluminum mouse pad might be cold at times. Especialy if you live somewhere like I do where it snows in the winter. I personally use a RatPadz for gaming. There's no wrist rest but you can buy one of those seperately. I think wrist wrests are overrated for gaming. It's only when doing stuff like web browsing where you're not moving the mouse all over the screen at a fast rate that wrist wrests come into play. These things are made by hardocp.com. http://www.ratpadz.com/

I'm also saying ditch the SATA Plextor. It's completely not worth it at all. Also, if you check storagereview.com the Raptor 74GB drive doesn't perform THAT much better than, say, the new 16MB cache Maxtor drives. Not for the dollars per gigabyte difference there is. Yes, I realize that the Raptor is the trump card in the penis-envy game (without going SCSI) but really, save yourself some cash and pour it into a wicked set of speakers for that sweet rig. You'll thank yourself later.

u got another vote for that case. for some reason it looks pretty good. though, u should save some money to buy a couple of LCDs and some more storage space.

ok, that would be the equivalent of whipping it out and having it flop down onto the floor and unroll like a carpet. Solid state disks are neat, but I doubt the OP is considering that so let's get back to actual somewhat normal HD's with moving parts. Anyway, just for fun.. here's a few numbers from storagereview.com comparing the 74GB Raptor vs the 300GB Maxtor Maxline III and the Hitatchi 7K400 400GB drive

Gaming benchmark (in I/O per sec)
Raptor: 739
Maxtor: 589
Hitachi: 609

Bootup benchmark
Raptor: 562
Maxtor: 490
Hitachi: 435

High-End benchmark
Raptor: 575
Maxtor: 472
Hitachi: 448

Yep, the Raptor lays some smackdown, but the fact that the other two drives aren't THAT much more expensive and have 4-5 times the storage makes the performance of the Raptor less worth the price you pay.

someone should do a value ram review or something.

Man, I still can't get over that case. It looks like a blue penis. How could a man purchase that case and not question his own sexuality?

All in the eye of the beholder lol... I like it because I'm a futurist I guess you could say... I like stuff that doesn't look like its from this time. Sure its a plastic shell over an ordinary ATX Mid-size case, but some people just don't like letting everyone see the guys of a computer... It's getting to the point where it's tacky now. EVERYONE has a window and cathode tubes yadda yadda... As I said I'm a non-conformist.
