A picture of the GeForce 8800 Ultra card appeared in our forums earlier and our sources confirmed that it is one of the 2 reference cooler designs that NVIDIA let their partners choose from. This design is the nicer looking one we heard. Also we learned that the final clocks for the 8800 Ultra card set in at 650MHz for the core and 2.16GHz for the GDDR3 memories. Industry sources are speculating that NVIDIA might revise the pricing downwards to be in better competition with the upcoming Radeon HD 2900 XT cards. Reviews are set to appear on May 1st and availability by mid May.

I sure hope so, time to lay down the crack pipe and think just how is this card special compared to an OC'd gtx.

The Ultra is not a replacement.
It's more like a small niche card (for the very rich and very proud)

Not really. This card will be released in extremely low quantities, and really just allow nVidia to take money from people who like to throw it away. The last nail in AMD's coffin, assuming DT benchies are true, would be lowering the cost of the 8800GTX to make it compete with the HD 2900XT.

I guess you're right though, because the ultra will allow the price reductions. So I'll call it the indirect last nail in AMD's coffin. 😛
 
If this card truly does move down the entire pricing hierarchy for the 8800 series and brings GTX costs down low enough I cant see people choosing the 2900 UNLESS the drivers are soo good they make you breakfast and coffee in Vista and XP.

I would take an ATI card anyday over an nVidia card after my experience with an 8800 in Vista.

I don't think anything should be expected out of such a new OS. Over time everything should mature, and the 8800 should be fine with Vista.

Anyways, that card is massive...just like the X2900XTX. Is the only upgrade from the GTX to Ultra the extra clocks?

What was your problem with the 8800GTX in Vista? I've had no issues with mine and I'm a SLI user. Allow the drivers to mature a little though. Vista is not for gaming as we speak.
And you think ATI will work miracles in the Vista drivers department just cause they said so? Wait and see. HD2900XT/XTX is a new architecture card. Their Vista drivers might be fine with older architectures, we haven't seen any numbers of HD2900XT/XTX in Vista compared to XP.
A gaming system should run XP 32bit. That's where the best compatibility is nowdays.

From what i can tell, the ultra should give a 30% performance increase from a GTX, especially with the increase in bandwidth/fillrate where the GTX seems to be limited from. (mostly fillrate)

The fan seems shifted toward the right side of the PCB, and got abit smaller. Looks bad ass though.
 
Any ideas on how much ram it will have.

I want to build a top of the line pc but I'd rather wait till they release a 1gb version. I can see this 768mb version getting obsolete pretty soon.

What do you all think?

Why that high?? Maybe if they added more shaders, but 30% from just a core and mem speed bump??

18% increase in core clock (575 vs 650)
13% increase in shader clock (1350 vs 1600)
30% increase in bandwidth (1800 vs 2350)

I came to an assumption that the 8800 ultra will perform 15~30%. I should've mentioned the "30%" being the best possible scenario (bandwidth limited scenario that is). IF its based on the old G80 core and nothing has been touched.
