I have finally decided on my final SLI rig configuation. Before I spend $2000 on a new PC, I want everyones opinion on it and to make sure everything is compatible. Also, if you know where to get anyof this stuff for less, please let me know. Thanks.

Video Cards- 2x6800GTs $800
Motherboard- Asus K8N-SLI Deluxe $200
CPU- Athlon 64 3500+ 90nm OEM $250
Memory- 1GB PC3200 TCCD (2x512) $246
Hard Drive- Maxtor 250 GB SATAII OEM $178
DVD Writer- NEC DL Drive OEM $69
Case- CM Stacker $166
PSU- ThermaltakePurePower 680W $177
Heatsink/Fan- Thermaltake Silent Boost K8 $28

25 more dollars would get you the 300gig maxtor, and are you use you want the silent boost?

I was questioning that move myself, I am currently researching good socket939 heatsinks and so far I'm leaning towards a Swiftech MCX6400-V

What are you guys all using?

You listed the MSRP prices for the video card, motherboard, and CPU. You are going to be hard pressed to find a 6800gt PCI-e in stock for only $400. Also, the prices I've seen the Asus motherboard are between $250 and $300. Also, the CPU is going to be way over $250 if you can find one in stock (newegg has them for 325 right now!).

I think the PSU is a bit excessive (and expensive) a good 550W antec true power will power that system fine.

Nice system nonetheless. Just be prepared to pay a bit extra for the parts noted above.

a) ZZF has the motherboard in stock for $200
b) the PSU i picked has 2 PCIe graphics card leads
c/ Monarch Computers has the CPU (OEM) in stock for $250

Is SLI really worth it right now?

I was thinking of trying that Asus K8N-SLI Deluxe with one 6800OC. Where did you find if for $200?

Yea, I haven't done too much research but check out the Swiftech MCX6400-V
There are some good pics on newegg of it.

Personally I'm gonna use a panaflo fan on it so I wanted it to support an 80mm fan.
Other than that it looks like a solid heat transfer design that could more than handle any cpu at stock speeds and even overclocked.

It's on the expensive side, but I bought a nice Alpha heatsink 2 years ago for my current rig and couldn't be happier. Anytime something goes wrong i don't have to worry about it being heat problems or severe dust clogging a cheap heatsink. 🙂

BTW: Where are you reading the reviews?

Edit: Just a question, but why do you need such a power-monger of a PC?
I mean, HL2 and Doom3 will run at over 100 fps @ the highest res on that thing!

that seems quite pricy for a heatsink, especially without a fan.

Yea, I just can't find a cheaper one that I would feel really confident with.
Dust buildup is such a major problem with heatsinks.

What sites were you getting the heatsink reviews off of?

Yet you are already paying over $2000 for a PC? j/k... we all have our limits (unfortunately mine is around $1200 after saving for 5 months). I didn't realize that you could buy two cards at once at MSRP, so that's a good deal you got. Anyway, have fun with the system and make sure to post some benchies when you got it running...

I have the swiftech MCX64-V and can only say great things about it i highly recommend swiftech, good fan too not too loud. i got it awhile ago mainly because the thermalright was out of stock but it is just as good as my previous thermalrights in my opinion

i will. BTW, i am going to be doing an SLI DIY type gide with pictures and setup and stuff like that. are there any free websites where I could host it?
