It would help if you provided prices or something. I'm pretty sure there are better monitor choices (like the Dell 2407WFP-HC), but I don't know how they match up.

Personally, I'm not big on buying top-of-the-line-everything, but that's your call to make. You could probably cut your budget by 50% and only cut performance by maybe 20%.

Unless you have some specific need or desire you can clearly articulate, I'd pass on the 64-bit version unless you enjoy of the challenge of finding 64 bit drivers for every part.

Vista 64 is a solid OS and mostly compatable, unless you have 16bit programs that you use there is little reason not to go to it right now (and it defiintely can use 4gigs of ram).
The sound blaster Elite is a very good (and very expensive card), what speakers are you planning on using with it? Also if you are using a home theater setup make sure your reciever has analog inputs as no X-fi's have dolby dgiital or dts encoding capabilities (ie if something is digiatal (dvd,hd-dvd,blue-ray) they can output it through optical but they cant send game audio through it). Auzentech has a card based on the x-fi coming out soon that can handle dobly digital encding and might be worth waiting for (you can always build now and add the card later).
Since you are spending so much if you are considering going sli/crossfire int he future it might be worth waiting a month or so for x38 boards to be out (they will definitely support crossfire and might support sli).

Yo VINKRILLZZ ! i was reading your other posts and wanted to say that you should just buy the Q6600 and overclock it to 3.0 ghz or more (easy as pie to do) your then getting as much as you would out of the QX6850 with alot less to spend. Instead just get 2 8800GTX cards..... The Q6600 stock does way more than anyone needs. If youve got it at 3ghz like on my rig, youll be able to fly to the moon and back..... Dare i say some of the guys on this forum laugh at my 3.0 ghz and have it closer to 4.

haha

Well that is a nice system! But maybe a little over the top? You don't need to spend 4000$ to have a well performing rig. Though if you have the money I suppose it will be fine.

You might wanna get the Auzentech Prelude instead of the Creative card. Should be much better with Vista since Auzentech are forcing Creative to be more picky with the drivers. Availability starting this week I think.

Also, I don't think the Ultra 8800 is really worth it. Especially if 9800GTX is out in a few months. Get maybe a GTS or GTX then sell it and upgrade.

see that is my problem as i am very lazy and i want to build my rig and not have to upgrade or fuss with it for atleast a year or 2 if that is too much to ask from the pc community.....i dont mind spending a little biut extra and having no headache for a while......and as far as better mobos and sound cards and vieo cards coming out....that is so about every 3 months something way better than what you just bought will be out.....so i just want to know the best current setup i can possibbly put together for about 3000

and i chose the 6700 because it had
l1 Cache 64KB+64KB
and the 6600 has 32 +32

is that a big diffrence....it sure looks like it to me ?

VinKrillzz the q6600 has the same l1 cache as the q6700, the e6600 and e6700 have half the cache (as they are dual cores over quad).

You might as well go for dual 8800 ULTRAs.

But yea... Well if you don't mind spending the money, (it sounds like you don't) then go for it, but if you don't just have this money sorta just lying around then I wouldn't because you could get better by waiting on the v card etc. Though even if you buy an 8800 Ultra now, it should last you for a long time to come (at least 2+ years).

i know you guys find me amusing..lol....i just want the best system i can make.....im really not into overclocking and then having to add more cooling and having my cpu fry up because im overduing it......i want the best stuff so that i can runn it cool with out overduing it...why over clock the 6600 when the 6850 does that with out overclocking.....i dont get it.......unless money is an issue....which it aint.....i have about a 3000 budget every 2-3 yrs that i put aside for a new rig.....i dont want to hassle with upgrading peices every 3 months to keep up and waiting for price drops and all of that stuff.....and the 8800 ultra is only 100 dollars more that the gtx

Problem solved then =) go dual 8800gtx and the 6850 !

F88k it ! go for it, i see what you mean and understand.

the longer you wait to by this rig the sooner it will go out of date and as others have said previously, your system will last a good couple years anyway.

buy it today brother !

Why are you asking yourself questions????????

😕 TO THE MAX!

So...what speakers are you planning on pairing with this Elite?

hes talking himself through it and if there are any concerns we will pick them up and share our advice !

surely youve ordered this bad boy vinkrillzz ? i know i couldnt wait for something like this..........

As for speakers: Z-5500 Digital Speaker System.

I know I sort of stole away from Purdue there, and I apologize, but I want to advertise them because they are so gosh darn powerful. :-3 Get them, you won't be disappointed. (Or so the critics say, I don't even own them! xD)

Also, please, do yourself a favor and go 32-bit. 64-bit isn't worth it right now, -really-. Unless you plan to wait until the service pack is out... Even then, *shrugs*...I just don't recommend it.

By the way! If you're going all out: Get either Intel's X3200 or 6800... They are just far superior than the processor you listed.

Oh, and! No need to get 4 gigs of RAM. Sort of just a waste of money... -Especially- if you aren't overclocking. There is only but so much RAM your computer can use, and this machine certainly can survive off of 2 gigs. You -could- just get 3, but I have heard of "balancing issues" if you don't get with an even number (to pair) after a gig.

Wow, I just keep seeing things here... Is your DVD-ROM SATA? If not, get SATA. Superbly faster, environmentally-friendly, and performance.

Onnnnne last thing, I promise: I do believe that motherboard supports SLI... *evil grin* Why not get -two- of those nice 8800's, dual them together, and get some -incredible- minimum frame rates?

But then you'd want a better cooling system! OK, I'm getting carried away here. 😛

If you give us some prices, totals, etc., and then tell us a budget you're on, we can -easily- set you up with a god-like machine. Just remember how destructive being hubris is. ;-)

I hope you consider doing some of the -intelligent- things I mentioned up there, if there are any! I do hope so, I'm still sort of new to the computer gig.

Good luck, and I hope your rig turns out to be an amazing piece, indeed! 🙂

Q6700>E6800 for a build to last for two years, not to mention it's almost half the price. And what the heck is a X3200? X3210 or X3220 sure, but both of those are less than the CPU he already has listed.

On the memory issue, Vista will use every shred of memory it can get, especially if it's the 64 bit version and can address it all. He doesn't want to survive; he wants to a rig that will thrive for the next two years untouched. 4 gigs is a no brainer.

SATA vs. IDE optical drives is a matter of interface only. An SATA optical drive's speed is limited by the drive itself, not the interface. SATA optical drives are no faster than their IDE siblings. The only reason to go with an SATA optical right now is to use a smaller cable to connect it to your mobo. I assume the smaller cable is what you mean by environmentally-friendly, but his mobo will come with the IDE cable even if he doesn't use an optical drive at all.
