Kotaku has the story from last night's Final Fantasy XIII event in Tokyo. The Japanese release date is set for Dec 17th while the non-Japanese release date is a more nebulous Spring 2010.

At least we can safely say that it wasn't delayed until then to avoid competition. Yuk yuk yuk.

Heh. It's released on my birthday. I'll probably get the NTSC-J version :)

This game is the reason everyone bought a PS3. It better be good.

Fix'd that for ya :p

Bzzt, incorrect! I bought my PS3 to have a Blu-ray player and for MGS4. I have no interest in FFXIII.

There's about a 50% chance that his post was actually sarcasm/humor. Some people truly believe that FFXIII will finally "unleash the true power of the PS3" and it will thrust the PlayStation back into gaming dominance. :p

I'm fairly pissed that Square decided to release FF13 on the 360. Not because I'm a fanboy (I own both systems), but because they decided to not release the PS3 version until the 360 version was done as well.

will there be a diff between the ps3 and 360 versions? i guess i wouldn't be surprised if the 360 version was on multiple discs

360 will be on multiple disks. Otherwise, they are supposed to be as identical as PS3/360 cross-platform games get.

From what I understand, Square develops on their own PC platform and then ports the game over. So localization was more of an issue than porting. Still, a 4 month delay between the Japanese and Western market release is pretty darn good for Square.
