Final Fantasy XIII-2

I stopped caring about Final Fantasy after two events happened. The first was the release of FF12, which I felt was a blurry mess. It might have been good but I couldn't get over the poor graphics engine. The second event was the release of Lost Odyssey, which told me that other companies are now making better "Final Fantasy" style games than Square. My .02
 
I've always thought the FF series has been pretty good. Although I admit I've only played a handful of them (7, 8, 9, 13).

Guess you love what you grew up with, and having never really played another jrpg I dont know what I'm missing... although I know I dont like the lost odyssey (playing now) combat system as much as FF

I didn't say it had bad graphics, I said it had blurry graphics. What good are all those textures if they have to run low res versions just to keep the framerate up. Anyways, it was a good game overall..but then again so was FF13 with its rail shooter storyline. Sometimes I feel like they change things just to change them. The FFX battle system was perfect except for the need to swap people in and out for xp.

Uh, yah, that's a hallmark of the Final Fantasy series. If they keep what people thought was perfect they'd still be using the materia system from Final Fantasy VII.

Anyways, Square Enix really has no choice but to make some sort of "-2" game. They can't afford to develop entire new games from scratch any more. RPG sales are down and developing games for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 is very expensive. I wouldn't be surprised to see a "-3" game in a year or two.
 
FFX Battle system was OK. The "sphere" system, horrible. As far as the graphics being "blurry", you probably need a new TV. Because they looked just fine to me lol.
 
As far as FFX goes it is a love/hate thing for me. I hated nearly every aspect of the story and a lot of the characters. On the other hand, I loved the battle system and the sphere grid allowed for tons of customization, which I love.

For FF13-2... I think I was one of the few that liked FF13, so I'm looking forward to 13-2.
 
My question is, did any of you really care about any of the characters in FFXIII? Is anyone interested at all?

I liked Lightning actually, but that's about it. Vanille often made sexual noises which always got a good chuckle out of me, though. Hope, Snow, and the jolly African-American can DIAF 😛

XIII-2 will probably be a launch day purchase for me. I'm not "omg excited!" about it, but I want to play it.

Yep. I grew up w\ final fantasy and have played 1-9 including all japanese versions... I couldn't get through any of the PS2 games and don't feel like trying XIII...

They definitely need to stop numbering the games. You put out XIII and then make XIV an mmo... then you want to go back and make a sequal to XIII... XIV is already taken, XIII 2 is just a stupid name... and XV ...idk.

Maybe they should just make it DLC instead of releasing as XIII 2

I thought every single character was annoying as all hell.

Sazh was less so, but he still wasn't interesting at all.

Game as a whole was terrible though.

I'm in the middle of the game and I'm hoping that Hope gets the crap kicked out of him.

I like Lightning, but that's mostly 'cuz she's an attractive girl. I get a kick out of what Sasz says sometimes.
 
I think I've said this before but just in case I havent: The voice acting is tolerable for me, but the dialog is so goddamn contrived. I know this game is an Eastern flavor, but some of the responses some characters have to others is ridiculously lame.

Still, I plan to get past the 2 hour mark some day and see what this combat is all about.

Well, Final Fantasy X-2 was a fair bit different from Final Fantasy X. They reused alot of the old graphics for locations and stuff, but had only two of the main characters in your party and different a combat and leveling up system. Depending on what you liked about Final Fantasy XIII and what Square Enix changes, you might have a different opinion about XIII-2. A lot of fans of FFX ended up hating FFX-2.
 
They went medieval 😱 I just wish they improve the usable items as well the looting and upgrading system and for the love of god don't use vanilles' English voice actor again.
 
Shit, i thought this was about FFXIII Versus and then I watched the trailer and saw it had lightning in it.

I'll probably get it, but wonder when Versus will be out.
