My PS2 died soon after I got Final Fantasy 12. I was spending a few hours leveling up and then it died unexpectedly. I always wanted to get a PS3 with BC so that I could finish it. That PS2 lasted ~5 years with no problems, and just decided to crap out one day.

When I can get a PS2 and FF12 for ~40-50 dollars or so, I might decide to finish it. I didn't like FF12 so much, but I only got ~12 hours in, and most of that was leveling and hunting. My favorite FF has to be FF3.

Most consider the SNES ones to be the best. I like VII the most out of the later generation, and feel that XII is the weakest, next to VIII.

X destroyed free-roaming, Overworld environment, which I consider a travesty in light of the entire series. Other than the battle system, I thought X was piss-poor. Voice, writing, story....laaaaame.

Voice acting is much better in XII, if that's all you're into. Though, there is yet another pre-teen dipshit main character that you have to put up with....

VI was the best. god that game blew the shit out of my mind. i think subconsciously the only reason i still play the FF series is to get that awesome feeling i got from vi. i think in terms of storyline quality x came closest to vi, while in terms of gameplay/content/mechanics ix was the closest (to vi).

yeap. FF VI was just flat out amazing. it had a great storyline, greath gameplay, the charectors are unforgetable.

The thing i hate about latter FF games is far to much FMV. its like watching a movie with a little gameplay.

Also hear they took away the ability to just wonder around. i enjoyed doing that. its a good way to build up the exp and sometimes you find some neat hidden stuff.

last FF i played through was FF IX. i couldnt stand X or XI and havent got any after that.

last really good RPG i have played was Dragon Warrior VIII. would love a great RPG on the PS3

I don't mind that so much but that's just me.

12 wasn't very great. Lots of eye candy, no character development. 10 was much better in this regard.

7 ~ 10 ~ 6 > 12 > 8 > 9

I just beat 12 a few days ago. I must say, though its definitely not the best, it is the toughest. It has some good challenges that really make you wonder how you're gonna get through it. Plus if you play you're gonna put A LOT of hours into it. I put in 50 and I'm not one to finish every little detail in an RPG. Story is decent, and has a feeling of FF Tactics to it (a lot of the same names are used), and is just enough to keep you going. It didn't draw me in like any of the others though. Play it if you have the time; don't play it if you only have less than an hour a day.

OP is probably talking about PCSX2 the emulator. FF10 plays at full speed but 12 doesn't.

Why is like everyone hating ff9? It is like the psx era ff that is most similiar to the older generation one.

FF12 is formally part of the Ivalice Alliance series, IIRC. That would include FF12, FFT, FFTA, and FFTA2. Unofficially, it would also include Vagrant Story.

I didn't like it because at that point I was getting sick of jRPGs and it didn't seems to have anything to set it apart. To be fair I didn't give it too much of a chance I think I only got about 3-4 hours into it.

FF12 runs at close to 80FPS constant with 2x AA on. I'm using a q9550 and a 4870x2 both at stock speeds.

amdhunter, if your computer is capable of running it at reasonable speeds, you should also try playing FF12 using pcsx2. You just need a controller (I'm using a logitech cordless rumblepad 2, very similar to a dual shock 2)

According to canon Vagrant Story, FF XII and FF Tactics all take place within the fictional world of Ivalice. FFTA and FFTA2 all occur within a 'fictional' or 'dream' version of Ivalice. Yes the storyline of the two FFTA's are a bit too meta for my liking.

The Ivalice alliance is just a marketing initiative. I personally believe it's Squeenix's attempt at foisting the greatness of the original FFT onto mediocre titles in an attempt to garnish sales.

Final Fantasy 12 was an attempt to cross the mature, political and philosophical Ogre series with the classic FF formula. It seemed like a botch job though, very little story (despite a standard FF length) or character development. You'll get through the whole game and go: what the fuck, that was it? It feels like it got through about 1/4 of the story of FFVII, as though FFVII just stopped right after the party leaves Midgar.

Also awesome soundtrack. The best by far in the series followed by FF IV in my opinion.

Hopefully White Knight Story will be a decent game for PS3. I really think original JRPG genre is dead though.

I think they should start making jrpgs without voice acting again. I don't know when the decided this was the better way to make them. I think of rpgs like books, I prefer not to hear the voices because it leaves more to my mind to make up.

Dumb poll, starts at VII?

Anyway, I liked XII a lot. I put in a good 90 hours on my first run. The story line wasn't as good as previous FF's, but I really liked the battle system, and there is a TON of stuff to do in the game. The hunt sidequests alone will keep you busy.

IMO X and X-2 are the worse FF games. Not horrible games, just the worse out of all of them. XII was an improvement but not much.
