Yea it's an old game but I'm only just playing it now so I'm gonna rant about it.
First of all thank god for the real-time-ish battles. Reminds me of KOTOR... in fact the whole thing kinda reminds me of star wars... but never mind that, anything that reminds me of star wars has to be pretty good. Don't get me wrong though, when I played VII the turn based system seemed great with the new 3D graphics, and hey, FF is turn based right? Thats just the way it is. But no. I had no idea how sick I was of seeing that cutaway sequence before a fight...
The thing that get on my nerves is this licence board. It's nowhere near as interesting as the board from X. The worst thing about it is that it removes the ability (necessity) of specialising your characters - you can't find any good light armour? Fine it only takes a hundred points to switch to heavy armour. Want one of your characters to be strong and sturdy and another light and fast? No point - all your characters can have all the augments by level 30. Need another healer? No problem, just spend a few points and get some light magic and mystic armour - it's right near your swords and heavy armour, just a few squares away... And I have *way* too many licence points. I don't use the item which doubles the licence points earned as I feel it would be almost cheating.
All this is redeemed by the story of course. And the fact the game is f*cking beautiful.
