Final Fantasy XI and a 6800GT

I just got my 6800GT in today, and started up FFXI. I was getting a relatively smooth experience at 1600x1200 with my 9700 pro. The 6800GT starts out fine, then the FPS gets progressively slower, down to the sub-5 FPS level. I'm using the 66.93 drivers, but I did try the newest WHQL drivers, and they didn't help. All my other games run fine at 1600x1200 other than FF. Any idea WTF might be going on here

did you run drivercleaner before installing the 6800gt?

as noted above, sounds like you have Ati left overs on your system. Run driver cleaner as suggested, and also use the latest Nv drivers the 71.84's, they are available on the Nvidia website.

Its just that ONE game? if so, then patch it or contact who ever made that game.
