Haha. Never did play Baldur's Gate... I do have Icewind Dale and it just sort of meh to me.

Icewind Dale is very much meh compared to baldur's gate.

there's so much party interaction, storyline, and dialogue, that simply isn't a part of IWD, which BG has (i can only speak to BG2...must have beaten the game 10x now)
 
I hated Baldurs Gate when I first tried to play it. It was boring and the story just wasn't there. But once I got to the city, the game really opened up and I found it to be a very fun game. I am just saying that the game starts slow, similar to the Witcher, or at least it did to me.
 
I hated Baldurs Gate the first time too.
It was BG2 that got me, loads more fun. Went back to BG1 and it was OK.

For reference I recommend installing both games on the same drive and using the Tutu mod to put the 1st one in the 2nd engine. Better graphics and interface.
