Might get it for nostalgia's sake if I can find it cheap enough...don't think I'll be playing through all of it again though.

Well that's a reason to finally play it (please don't throw stones at me). I wanted to play it for like 14 years, but I haven't got the time. Though I've finished and really enjoyed FF VIII which most fans don't like...

I thought 8 was pretty good but was a disappointment coming from 7. Have played through VII at least 5 times, only played the others once.

Is this still basically the same as the original PC/PS1 version? If they offered it up with high-res backgrounds and cinematics I'd be all over it.

The redux version Square released last year is pretty much exactly the same, no enhancements to visuals or sound. The only change was getting it to work well on modern OS's.

Frankly I'd rather wrestle with my original version and try to get it working on XP or Win 7.

A guy in the comment section of CNET says the graphics have been updated and the Music has been "recomposed" (lol).

A bit much to charge for what is essentially a 17-year-old game with the only change being compatibility with current OS.

I played this game on PC (ATI-video accelerated, yeah!) so I hold nostalgia for it but the (visually outdated) game trailer still manages to hurt my eyes.

I just read this has some stupid DRM that requires you to be online to play. Not getting this at any price.

DRM for purely single-player game? How much more obvious do they want to be?

One less reason to even want to buy this game.

ACTUALLY

steam has been really good about putting extra DRM up near the top of the page, so everyone can see it.
I am not seeing that stuff here so its possible the steam version doesnt have Sony's extra nonsense.

Nevermind. I was wrong.

I happen to know for a fact wings of prey has extra bullshit and steam is not listing it.

Some of the screenshots look less blocky than I remember (second one, casting Tera Flare). Others, like the snowboarding screenshot, look just as crappy as I remember them.

Either I just don't remember it correctly, or they did slightly enhance some graphics.

I think they mean from the previous PC version. Sounds like you may be referring to the PSX version?

I heard the SE edition cant outdue the Ultima edition.

which is kinda sad, seeing how the ultima edition was pure pirateware.

i think square is trying to milk the last spinoff possible before they decide to remake 7 entirely... or completely drop it from the world.

I don't know, the PC port was rather on the buggy side when it came to getting it to run. I had a lot of trouble with it not to mention that from what I recall it only supported hardware 3D in Glide (3DFx) or at least it was another case where the Glide implementation was better than Direct3D. I will say that it was neat that they included the soundfonts for the SoundBlaster cards that supported them. If I really wanted to play it again, I would rather buy this version because I sure as heck do not want to wrestle with getting it working on modern hardware.

As usual, Square is overcharging for their old titles. At this point FF7, even remastered, should be a $5 title at best. :(

This isn't even remastered.

I'm surprised they haven't remade it. They are remaking Final Fantasy 10 (Which I put well over 200 hours into and I LOVED the story line) but they won't remake FF7 which is the most popular FF? Very confusing.

You are confusing remake vs remaster (in HD).

Remaking FF7 would be a massive undertaking and I could see how they think it'd be impossible. FFX is just being remastered in HD.

I never understand how people don't see the difference with this.

I'm actually surprised they haven't remade it with it being so popular. Do it right and some modern touches in the gameplay and you have an instant hit without all the work of making a new game from scratch.

FF7 wouldn't be the same if you re-made it.
The updated PC version that's been out for months is fine as it is. It has all the flavour of the original, which is just want you want.
I bought it a while ago from Square's website, as it's been out quite a while.

If you want to run it enhanced on the PC use epsxe...
