Does it upscale at all? I've always wanted to replay the game with a walkthrough by my side. On an HDTV @ 1080p does it scale ok, or does it look stretched out?

It should upscale if you have it turned on in your PS3 options..but obviously there is only so much that can be done with an image that was originally 400x300-ish resolution. If you press the PS button while the game is open, it gives you the option to turn smoothing on and to stretch the image to full screen. I can tell you that stretched it looks HORRIBLE on a 1080P set (I have one)..but if you play it letterboxed in the original aspect ratio with smoothing on, it looks fine. The characters are still blocky of course (since no new polygons are added) but the backgrounds look great and the summon and magic effects have held up well.

For best image:

Enter PS3 options and turn PS1 upscaling ON.

then press "PS" button during FF7 game and turn Smoothing ON and Stretch OFF. 🙂

Can someone who has purchased this on PSN confirm something for me? I own the original FF7 disc version. However, the big problem is that the O button is mapped to Accept and the X to Cancel. Which is unlike most every other game out there. Any chance that the PSN version has been changed to fix this slight flaw and that X is now Accept?

Thats a BIG problem? 😕

Change the mappings in the options menu?

can i buy this online on a PC and then transfer it to my PSP via USB or memory card ?

Yes, it's what I do since the downloads are much faster with MediaGO on the PC than the PSP's poopy wifi. Just plug in the cable and put the PSP in USB mode, start the download and it will automatically install it on your PSP.

This game is definitely due for a redux. I can't seem to go back to it due to the blocky lego graphics. I have no problem replaying the older 2-D FF games though.

FF3 is the all time greatest from the FF series

FF2!!!

good deal, though. I still have the original release PS1 discs.

Is SotN still a $10 purchase on PSN?

It's not a flaw. Some other games use this button convention, specifically Metal Gear Solid.

It's just simply the japanese way. They use O for accept and X for cancel, whereas other territories typically used X for accept and O or Triangle for cancel.

wait what? SotN = Castlevania: Symphony of the Night? I didn't even see it listed on PSN.

I downloaded the game and it still uses the X to cancel, O to accept, etc.

You can however change the controller settings by pressing the PS button I believe.

Either way, it's not that big of a deal. Just get used to it.

I've heard from a lot of people who despise IX, even though it's my favorite one. Now I don't really care. To each their own I guess.

It's because IX had a terrible ending. The last boss just appears out of nowhere with no mention of him whatsoever throughout the game. It's just like, "BTW, guys, I'm the last boss. I know we haven't met before...but you have to kill me now". 😕

Will they ever remake this game for PS3?..

Of course they will. It would make them hundreds of millions in hardware and software sales. Just thinking about a FF7 remake makes me want to buy another PS3..! 🙂

i bought this to play on my ps3..which looks okay..but then i logged onto my psn account on my psp and i can download it on there as well.. its like 2 games in one!!!

I'm thinking FF7 could use with a revamp like Secret of Monkey Island. (Not the new stories of monkey island, thought they aren't bad either.)

Graphics and Voice overhaul, but remaining exactly true to the original in every other detail.

Oh and if you were a fan of Monkey Island and you haven't played the revamp, do it, you'll enjoy it and feel younger at the same time.

i prefer 2 as well. better plot twists and in ff3 the main character leaves your party so much that she ends up being secondary.

are the original FF7 discs really going for $100 on ebay? maybe i should sell. i've got the original FF tactics somewhere too (not the re-release)

Its not really stretched out at all during play but the block characters looks reallllly dated. Played for about 2 hours when I first downloaded it, now im having a hard time getting myself to play it again

I wonder how much my PC version of FF7 is worth. I also have the PS1 version 🙂

I have the original PS1 version - not the much more common "Greatest Hits" version.

Man it's been years since I even thought of that game. Ate waaay too much of my time for a while back in the day.

Same here. When I was 14 I stayed up 12 hours, all night on a school day, breeding a stupid golden chocobo.

I also had the non-GH version of FF7 and Tactics, but sold them for stupidly low prices because I was and still am a titanic moron.

I sold my copy back in 2003 for ~$20. I never realized that FF7 was in such demand. I always figured that they still printed copies like they do with FF8 and FF9.

I just wish Squenix would put FF9 up on PSN. As much as I like FF7, FF9 is more fun to me.
