Final Fantasy VI coming to PSN

Should say in Japan, cause that is all it is announced for thus far.

FF6 is one of my fav games of all time. I still play it on the SNES, I freaking love that game.

Damn straight, everyone goes nuts over 7 but it wasn't all that, it got such a huge following at the time cause its graphics were mindblowingly awesome at the time. The game itself was ok, a step down from 6 for sure.

I honestly don't know... I've been hoping for a sale on it 😛. Note that last I checked, it's an iPhone/iPod Touch only game, which means you'd be using the 2x zoom feature on the iPad when playing that. Supposedly, Square was going to release an iPad version in April.

For perspective, I'm a huge old school FF fan like a lot of people here. I just played through FF3 on DS in the past month, and I regret dumping 20 hours into it. Just a weak game. Might have been good to play when it was new, but it is leagues behind FF4 and FF6, imo. I can't recommend it unless you're on a die hard mission to play every FF.

6 was better in every single way that matters
 
6 is definitely among the best in the series. Amazing music, 14 playable characters--each with unique abilities, no teen angst bullshit, no stupid-looking teenage main character with exposed midriff, TONS of summons & spells, fast-paced battles that don't waste your time. . .

If you haven't played it yet, you need to.
 
Everyone goes nuts over 7 because they have a man-crush/crush on Sephiroth or they enjoyed watching Tifa in all her CGI-rendered glory 😛.

The story for 7 is littered with that psuedo-philosophical crap that's begun really plaguing anime somewhat recently. They think their plots and thoughts are so deep when they're about as shallow as a kiddy pool.

My favorite aspect of FF6 was the music... it has a far superior soundtrack to all other FF games. The only one that holds a candle somewhat close to it is FF4. FF7 has a few good themes, but most are forgettable. I still remember the theme that plays when Cyan is running through Castle Damcyan after he realizes the river was poisoned, and he's frantically searching for his family. Then there's Rachel's Theme that plays when you see what happened in Locke's past with his lost love... such a somber theme 🙁.
 
FF6 is my favorite console RPG of all time! I still remember getting the game as a Christmas gift and my parents letting me open it early so I can make full use of my x-mas break from school!

Everything about the game was done right: the gameplay, story, combat, weapons & items, and the music especially. I actually think that it was ahead of it's time.
 
Some of my best gaming memories are from this game. Where to begin. The epic music (in my opinion the best video game score ever), the awesome characters and personalities, the lengthy and tear-inducing ending, the coolest and most evil villain of all time.

Also, I agree that 7 was overrated. I never understood why everyone love it so much, I guess all the anime fanboys had a mancrush on Sephiroth and his flowing silver locks. The story to that game was trash, it made absolutely no sense towards the end.

On a side note, the orchestrated soundtrack to FF6 is simply amazing--entitled Grand Finale.

I think FF7 is when the series started with the "edgy" teen angst anime bullshit. It's also when they brought in Nomura as the character designer, who turned all the characters into androgynous fashion models.

I love the FF series and just about every main entry in it, but damn, S-E needs to hire some fresh writers and character designers. There is so much potential to "reboot" the series and break the JRPG genre out of its rut.
 
Hope they release it this and FFIV on iPad. Instant buy for me. Not a fan of FFIII which will be released today. Played on the DS and it was so freaking boring and the story was bleh!!
 
I just hope it isn't the unoptimized mess that was included with FF Anthology. The load times were horrible...primarily due to the emulator they used. I got tired of playing it due to excessive loading between battles. Same reason I didn't like 8 and 9.
 
FF4 blows.... no offense. It's just so linear, easy, etc. The story is cringe. I've played it a few times as a kid, went back to it. It sucks. I think it's funny that after all these releases the FIRST one is probably the best. It's really one of the only somewhat open-ended ones that have somewhat difficult battles where your teammates will actually die. 7 is great for so many reasons. Right on par with 6 for me personally. I can understand when people say it is overrated though.

I actually played through a pretty good hacked FF6 SNES rom that had Leo as a playable character, only a few people could use magic, everyone's abilities were considerably different, relics were used to teach magic, all creature stats were ramped up considerably, etc., etc.

Shit, I'm going to load that one up on my xbox after I finish Ogre Battle. 🙂
