Final Fantasy Tactics

can anyone suggest a "RPG-strategy-turn-based" game similar to the old Final Fantasy Tactics on the original playstation ? or Mystaria on the Sega Saturn ?

does such a game exists on PC ?

I have never played Final Fantasy Tactics, however some popular fantasy turn based strategy games are the Heroes of Might and Magic series(with 3 being the best) and the Age of Wonders series.

Not sure, but maybe Fallout Tactics.

You can play Baldur's Gate 2 in a turn based system from the setting options.

Jagged Alliance 2 is a turn-based squad-level strategy game with strong RPG elements.

You control a squad of mercenaries trying to free a fictional Latin American country, using real-world pistols, SMGs, assualt rifles, and gernades instead of spells and fantasy weapons.

Fallout Tactics is similar, except it's set in the Fallout post-nuclear-war world with a mix of modern and scifi weapons. The combat is less realistic / good but it's still fun.

I've just started playing Silent Storm, a similar game set in WW2 but with scifi elements later in the game. The first hour of play was pretty good but it's way too soon for me to recommend it.

Yea I have not seen a tile based, turn based strat game on the pc. And with FFT being one of my fav games of alltime I have looked .....no luck though🙁

I just recently started replaying FFT on my computer using emulator. The hardware drivers all have weird problems with FFT but it works nicely in software mode.

Silent Storm

Gawd I'm obsessed with that game . . ..

I'ts based in the WW-II/60's spy movie formula - somewhat over the top, but good nontheless.

edit: Play it some more - I've played Fallout Tactics, but it was still too buggy (even with all the patches) for me (of course, I transitioned to FoT from Fallout 1 and 2) to be completely comfortable with it - as far as gameplay is concerned, Silent Storm is a lot more refined, IMHO.

I didn't get a chance to play Jagged Alliance 2, though.

Tactics Ogre -- even made by some of the same people.

Maybe Disgaea/La Pucelle on PS2 (haven't played them, but want to).

edit: oh doh, on PC, nevermind. 😛

I really liked Disciples - Sacred Lands, and its sequel Disciples II (which spawned many expansions). Its a bargain-bin software title, but the sequel to the original has outstanding graphics I thought, and it was always one of my favorite games to pass the time. It is published by a small company, Strategy First, and DaveSimmons mentioned Jagged Alliance 2. It happens that this company made this series of games as well. 🙂 They also made Etherlords, Etherlords II... well you the idea... they've made a lot of quality games that get overlooked because they rarely break 'new' ground, but are merely entertaining.

Nival (developers of Silent Storm, coincidentally) made those two games.

. . .n00b 😛.

I agree with the JA2 suggestion for PC. Also maybe Soldiers: Heroes of World War II. But! These are both gun games and not fantasy games. If you want to stay in fantasy, you've gotta, gotta, gotta get a PS2. Then get Disgaea, La Pucelle, Phantom Brave and a few others.
