Final Fantasy 7 Question

Should barret/vincent always be in the back row, since they're long range? Also, what do you guys think the best party is?

Yes about the back row. Really no reason to not do it unless Barret has one of his few close range weapons equipped.

The best party is usually a matter of personal preference based on what limits you find most useful but I prefer Cloud, Vincent and Cid/Barret.

As my friend drunkenly screamed at me in Steak N' Shake one night after a party "ANYONE THAT TAKES LIGHTS A STICK OF DYNAMITE WITH THEIR CIGARETTE IS TOO BAD ASS NOT TO HAVE IN YOUR PARTY!" I can only imagine what everyone else in the crowded restaurant thought.

If you use Cloud with the "Long Range" materia, baret, and vincent you can put them all in the back row. That's what I did on my last playthrough and it worked wonders.

Cloud, Cid is a given because he's awesome and Yuffie because the conformer is so easy to find. It was always the first ultimate weapon that I found so I'd give it to her and have her in the party because she'd do mad damage from the backrow.

I always rocked Cloud, Cid, RedXIII when I played through but FF7 is easy enough that you don't really need to worry about the best party. Just remember to equip HP+ materia on your characters and to always have your characters furied so you get limits all the time.

Also, I've never tossed anyone in the back row in the years of playing FF games.

From purely a limit break point of view (let's face it, that's really the only difference between characters endgame) any combination of Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Cid. They will do the most damage.

Why wouldn't you put people in the back row when their weapons do the same damage from the back row?

I liked Cloud, Tifa (Aerith as while while I can...I maxed out her level4 limit break as well lol) and Cid. Yuffie is also fun to play. I wish I could use Yuffie the same way that she initially fought me...jumping all around and pulling some crazy moves.

I used to play these games and focus on making the strongest even stronger...now I try to balance out the whole team. It means more grinding in general, but its more enjoyable because I get to explore the characters of others that I didn't use much.

Cloud, Barret, Cid end-game (Yuffie replaces Barret for grinding). Aeris is pretty much the best character, though.

EDIT: The three I picked have limit breaks that do the most number of hits. Since you can boost strength with items, max damage is limited to # of hits * 9999, and everything else is rendered moot with the use of materia.
