Ok I've been trying to get my system perfect and I think it is very close. With a ton of post here and a little off to the side research I think I've came up with my dream computer. Below are the listed parts I need to buy. Everything els is already purchased.

Monitor:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications...@ Tiger Direct $229.99[/L</a>

CPU:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ @ Newegg $322.00

HDD:
Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 SATA2 @ Newegg $102.50

Video Card:
connect3D Radeon X800GTO @ Newegg $179.00

Memory:
PQI Turbo Dual Channel 2x1GB @ Newegg $214.33

Microsoft Windows XP Proffesional SP.2 @ Newegg $146.95

Total comes to $1225.63 w/ shipping!

Only reason I'm buying from TD is because that monitor is $50 cheaper there than Newegg.

Comments, suggestions, Replies, all would be greatly appreciated.:)

Try to get the Opteron 165 Socket 939 instead. It's the exact same as the 3800+, except with double the cache. You can probably find it cheaper than that 3800+. Why do you need XP Pro? XP Home should work just fine.

I thought you had to have XP Home to run dual core CPU's?

Is the opteron's dual core though?

Ok found it but the 3800+ is 2.0GHz and 165 is 1.8GHz

Get a 2405FPW and use the remainder of the money to buy cheap components. Once you go big screen, you can't go back!

don't listen to this guy. think about it, you can get a 42" plama tv too with a 133MHz computer, but u don't. i'd get a 19" monitor though for $250 or less. check newegg daily and other sites for deals. they pop up very often. the rest looks pretty good

Yea but I don't mind the smaller screen it's only two inches and I'd rather have better quality. My friend has a 19" LCD and I can't really tell a difference between that and my 17"LCD I'm using now.

Before and (especially)after overclocking, Opteron 165 is still better than the 3800.

XP Home CAN'T make use of dual-core very well. XP Pro is designed for 2 CPUs, so it's the optimal choice.

Yes, but the fact is the the 165 has double the cache (2x1MB) vs the 3800+ (2x512MB). That makes up for the 200MHz lesser clock. Opterons are also tested more rigorously and are generally higher quality than their X2 counterparts, since they are intended for servers. Those that fail are made into standard X2s.

If you're an overclocker, many of those 165's have gone up to 2.6GHz on stock cooling. I'd like to see a X2 3800+ pull that off...

And if you're shallow and like looks, the 165 comes w/ a heatpiped based stock HSF...LOL

AND MOST IMPORTANT

will my MSI K8N-Neo4/SLI (non-platinum) be able to use that?
