It was $1299 before, only $999 now - huge pricedrop of $300! Although they did move to Intel-only, and non-integrated Intel graphics only (ATI or Nvidia only).

Do you use it for work, or does it just offer you things that you want to do that iMovie can't do?

Actually, based on your other threads, you have a pretty serious video hobby, right? That makes sense now. I was about to say that $1000 would buy you a nice camera, but you already have one 🙂

I was lucky I bought my Macbook when I did then. I get it at a discount from the college since I'm starting my grad studies in broadcast journalism this fall. Still cost me an arm & a leg though.

Yah, more of a serious video hobby. I will be shooting promo stuff for my company's website & presentations this fall though, so that will be fun 😀

I guess it's kind of like the difference between getting a burger from McDonalds and grilling one up at home - at McDonalds, you have a few options and you get a nice result, but at home, you can do anything you want - use a special bun, secret sauce, lots of different toppings, spices, seasonings, etc. You have more control over your final product using Final Cut Studio.

The question to ask yourself is, do I want to become a video editor, or do I just want to be able to edit movies? I'm interested in being an amateur video editor, so Final Cut Studio was the best decision for me. There's also Final Cut Express if you want to get more control without blowing your budget!
