I'm guessing the alcohol was diluted by the residual water in the filter.

Hell, I've been here too long. I remember a thread here about this very thing a couple years back, and in it was a link to a site where someone was doing some unscientific testing on filtering alcohol. You might want to google for it.

EDIT: Maybe this is it.

EDIT2: Another one.

I've heard of filtering vodka through a water purifier but never tequila

Alcohol is not large particles...it is blended extremely well with water.

It is very hard to sepate alc and water thru boiling (similar boiling points), and def filter won't do jack.

All you may accomplish is filter some (large) particles in tequila.

Don't by the cheap mixto crap.

Regular old Cuervo is 49% grain alcohol + 51% tequila. The gold color comes from food coloring.

I can understand filtering Vodka beacuse it's nothing more than grain alcohol with no flavor, but tequila should taste like tequila. Spend a little extra on the 100% agave stuff and leave the filtering for that Popov crap!

The activated charcoal in the filter binds to aromatics, right? If so, it might remove a lot of the flavors but probably also some of the impurities.

We did it with vodka, definitely works well. Not sure about tequila, though. I'm sure it'll improve the quality, purity-wise, but it'll probably remove a lot of the flavor.

Yup! Those brita filters are directional.

Are you saying brita will retain water but let alcohol through?

Only if you run it through backwards.

You caught the sarcasm the first time, though, right?
