yes acording to notice they have insurance and all of the required permits

Okay, we've established that they are engaged in a lawful business activity with the full knowlege and consent of the local and city government and the police.

So, how big did you say your legal budget was?

well i can afford pretty rich lawyers but i have a feeling it will not be need. Used to leave in beverly hills so know alot of them.

Can i legally record the movie with my video camera whille watching them film the movie?

I'm not sure that you could... I think it'd fall into the same category as recording a speech or concert, both of which are copyright violations. Because you are taping the same thing the film crew is taping, you'd be violating their copyright to their creative work.

but they are on public land and i am on my property so i can't still do it legally? i read the links but they address this exact sinario

Yeah like I said I'm not entirely sure... Yeah they're on public land, but it is still a creative work covered by copyright. The first link I posted mentioned speeches - they are copyrighted as long as they exist in recorded form. This would essentially be the same thing. What do you plan to do with this videotape? Just watch it in your house? You should be fine. But if you plan to put it on the Internet, you can count on needing those Beverly Hills lawyers. :)

My advice to you would be to play nice and see if you can get a spot as an extra. :)

I was living in Richmond, Va. back when they were filming the Charlie Sheen movie The Shadow Conspiracy. The movie was only a so-so action thriller but they filmed it in several places in the city I was familiar with. They were using Richmond as a stand-in for the D.C area.

They had one street blocked off for severall blocks only two streets away from my walk-up apartment near downtown. I went over there once but the street was deserted because they happened to be filming indoors that day. I wasn't able to go there on the day they filmed the car chase scenes.

The climax of the movie where Sheen and the vilian duke it out and the vilian goes crashing through a glass roof onto a grand piano was filmed in the building I worked at as a night security gaurd three years before that when I'd first moved to the city.

A foot chase through what appears to be a factory is actually the plant for the printing press of the Richmond Times Dispatch, the newspaper I was working for at the time.

There was a scene filmed near the base of the James River bridge where I sometimes went hiking and the final scene with Charlie Sheen and Linda Hamilton in a park was the park close to my apartment where my wife and I often rode bikes or went jogging.

By the time the movie was released and I rented the video, I no longer lived in Virginia so it was fun seeing my old stomping grounds all the way through the film. That was actually better than the movie itself because the movie wasn't all that great to begin with.

hmm intersting, as far as i can tell they will only be doing outdoor film shooting on this street.

Well they left about 30 min ago or so. Didn't do anything stupid to get arrested but did some stuff. First they trespassed my yard just by standing there, so came up to them and requested that they didn't trespass or I will be force to call police. They said okay sorry and got off. Well that didn't last long maybe an hour. After an hour I look out the window and see they put some equipment on my lawn and also about 5-7 people are standing on it. Was to lazy to go out side to tell them I am going to call cops to so decided to just hit the sprinklers as they are pretty powerful. Well as soon as I hit them they started moving the equipment of the lawn pretty fast but I am pretty sure they got wet as it took them about 3-4 min to get everything off. You would think they would learn right. Wrong they agene put one equipment on my lawn guess they thought the sprinklers were just programmed to go off at that time so this time I called the cops. A police officer came about 20 min latter and ask me what's up and I told him so went talk to them and came back and ask me if I want to press charges. I said not this time but if they do it again then yes. After that they learned the lesson and also a police car been going pass my house every 30 min I guess to make sure they stay off my property

if they don't have signs saying "no video cameras" then i'd guess you'd be fine

if you wanna piss them off, go down there with a powerful flash from a camera and let it off every few minutes

especially when they're filming with slow motion cameras :D

Why did you give them such a hard time? Were you just angry they didn't specificly come to you and ask for permission? If it were me I would have hung out and watched them doing what they do. I would only complain to them if they damaged my lawn or property. But that is just me.

They filmed the movie (Sabrina, with harrison ford) by my house a few years back. When they went into my town they moved the mail boxes. That was kinda annoying because I couldn't find the mail box

well, u know it's HIS PROPERTY..HIS LAWN......they really don't have a right to put equipment on his lawn...one time, @ my folk's house..some jackass put something in our lawn and broke a splinker head......which caused my dad to waste his time to buy a new splinker head and install it....

heck to prevent such a situation..i'd do that..especially if i take good care of the lawn...like my dad does....

and complaining after your splinker's broken or lawn is damaged...it's too late for that....

good for you, they were inconsiderate fvcks with no right to step on your property, let alone put equipment on it.

Wow... why don't you go up to the director and bitch about it? How much will it actually inconvenience you? Is it just one day?

one day and they says they will be doing car stants.

hmmm I'd worry about your engrish more and the stants less.

Usually a movie brings quite a bit of money into the location they are filming in and gives the locals jobs....but if you have a mission go for it.

They should not be doing anything in your front yard providing you live in a private residence (your swale is public). If you live in an apartment the owner may have agreed.

A Saturday will provide the least amount of impact to many people...they will probably start and be done early...if they are doing car stants :) a lot of government / legal paperwork was handled already.

What's the problem really? Need some validation for your life?

after the fact is kind of to late to complain. Once the damage something and you complain they would have just said well it was broken before. If they asked me for permission as its my private residence and they were willing to sign a paper indicating that they will pay for any damage that they cause i would have let them put stuff on my lawn but no one even said a word to me at any time before, during or after the movie shoot was done.

True, that would be all I would be upset about. I don't have anything on my lawn besides my lawn so the worst they could do is mess up the grass a bit. I would have probably just plopped down a lawn chair, fired up the bbq, called the friends up and enjoyed the hollywood magic.

pulse8 - "You're an idiot."

If that is to me, ok fine. I was just asking a question. To each his own.
