"Filmed in front of a live studio audience..."

Was Married with Children the last sitcom that was filmed in a live format? If you look at shows like that, the Cosby Show, All in the Family, The Jeffersons, etc, they were all filmed with that live look. Today, they're all processed. Seems like it would be cheaper to do a live show. Kind of miss them 🙁

I think Will and Grace filmed some episodes in front of a live audience during it's last season.

They were actually able to find people to watch that shit live?

I think all of those live studio audiences were "free tickets" as part of studio tours. So you were pretty much shoveled onto the set.

seinfeld? didn't they have an audience?

nope. You can't tell that it's canned laughter?

nah dude. I remember watching some behind the scenes show on E! or something and it was most def in front of an audience.

Canned or not, it was still in front of people.

this.

That 70's show did as well.

...I'm pretty sure that was canned laughter, too. But it's been a while since I saw an episode.

Again, they might be salting it by adding and accentuating, but in front of people nevertheless.

In an interview, Jerry said that they rehearse it in front of a live audience, and use the laughter for the taping.

I think Seinfeld was in front of a live audience. That doesn't mean they didn't add in the canned laughter later. Either that, or they filled the auditorium with nitrous oxide.

"Canned" laughter is often added in post, live audience or not. I believe Seinfeld was shot in front of an audience.

On one of the special features on the DVDs, I think Larry David said they had to ask the audience to stop applauding when Kramer entered Jerry's apartment because it took too much time and threw off the tempo of the scene.

Friends?

 Friends. There are a bunch of clips on the DVDs of the audience and the setup. The gag reals are pretty funny as well.

I wasn't a particularly big fan of the show - but I watched a special while flipping through channels and it showed some of the pranks the stars would pull on each other/goofs that happened that would put the audience in stitches.

It's surprising how much seeing someone walk out in their underwear or fall can be funny when completely unexpected.
