Film geeks not action geeks: Hulk good/bad?

Now I'm speaking to the film geeks among us and not the type that walks out of movies when they find out that it has subtitles.. Was the Hulk any good? I know it doesn't deliver on the special effects and I know that there aren't many action scenes.. I've read that it tries to center on the father/son conflicts and deals with the drama surrounding being a "super hero".. Sound like UNBREAKABLE terrority - does it live up to the dramatic angle? I loved spiderman for the sheer goofy energy that it had and hated daredevil for trying too hard to be serious but failing miserably (it tried to be dark like the Crow but ended up being like a tv-movie).. How does the Hulk measure up?

ive been readsing reviews, and its amazing to me. there is no real consensus anywhere. some people loved it, hated it, and some just thought it was decent. i really dont know if i should go and see it

i liked it. i also watched amores perros(sp) and talk to her on dvd this week. both have subtitiles which i guess would qualify me as film geek.

I really liked it because it focused on the original comic book story rather than action scenes.... IMHO, it was a great movie!

uhh dude did you not see the second half of the movie ?

Willl be seeing it now... The human drama sounds interesting but everyone seems to be calling it a bore.. Don't get me wrong, I dig a great action flick (x2 rocked) but I think I'll forgive this movie's terrible CGI (shame on you ILM!) if the drama delivers

yes i did, maybe you didn't?

Quite good. I was apprehensive (I called it Crouching Hulk, Angry Shrek), but I was impressed. The CG doesn't suck, and the reviewers that call the film humorless don't get it. Of course the hulk is humorless! Its the Hulk! No wisecracking Spidey or Wolverine, just a tortured guy who gets...angry.

I didn't mind the length, I liked the character development, and the direction was quite good. You were watching a comic book, which was neat.

It wasn't perfect, but on an old "Mr. Showbiz" rating scale (0-100), I'd give it an 80. The first Batman and Spidey were better, but this is a good effort.

Good acting, too.

I liked the movie and Jennifer is a very attractive women......but she NEEDS TO EAT SOME DAMN FOOD!!!!!!!!!!

I'd say overall it was pretty solid. There's a couple things to nitpick about but plenty of freshness to set it apart from normal action flicks. I had a good time with it.

I am an ex-film geek and saw the movie with two other MAJOR film geeks (one works for a DVD studio, the other works for Cinemax). Both of them thought it was the WORST MOVIE EVER.

Personally I liked the fact that the movie looked very "comic-book-like" with the transitions and overdone FX. Plotwise, it sucked. There's no way around that fact.

Or at least take her out of your Mom's basement/your "apartment" and find something in your mom's fridge to feed her.

i have collected comic books and the hulk was one of the series i collected...

did i enjoy the movie ..yes!

Was the CGI as bad as they say ..no!

i liked the movie as a whole..it explained the origin and alot of other things...i didnt liek the ending...it was a bit cheesy and i wish he had gone on a bit more of a rampage in the city.. but overall it was a fun movie

I see it as an introduction that gets the origin and conflict stuff out the way and sets the scene for some awesome titanic fights with adversaries in the sequel.

i just hoep they dont keep rehashing his inner conflicts...

btw the dog fight scene and the desert fights ROCKED!!

and to all you naysayers..oh well i enjoyed so too bad 😛
