As far as i know, your medical education is reviewed if you want to practice here in the States. I have an aunt, uncle, or cousins who came over having to retake a few classes, pass their boards, get licensed etc etc... and this is something all doctors and nurses do no matter where you get your education...

I think most people leave the states to go to school elsewhere purely due to cost.

As far as the show goes, I'm filipino and i'm not offended or outraged. It's a fictional show, and to go around thinking that people don't have these stereotypes in real life....hmmmm.... makes you wonder...

I wonder how everyone would react if the same joke was made to your profession, your college, or your home country.

The joke was in bad taste and was made without any truth. I've heard only good things about doctors and nurses from the philippines.

Well, I can take a joke, so I'd probably react by laughing.

Will you still laugh when clients no longer take you seriously due to a 'joke' made on tv?
Everyone here may be intelligent enough to realize it was a joke, but think of all the dipshits watching Desperate Housewives who may have interpreted that as a real stereotype.

Yes, you're exactly right. We should definitely shackle creative expression based on the theoretical reaction of a small group of idiots.

Seriously, it was a dumb joke. It wasn't even vaguely offensive unless you have some predetermined axe to grind. Quit whining and go watch South Park.

My favorite show. Never missed a single episode. It's a family event in my household. At first I was furious and ready to call ABC executives to cancel the show. Not long after, Terry mentioned in passing to one of her desperate friends that Filipinos are great lovers. My response was great jubilation. No harm done. Did you guys missed that? Yah she said it 00:33:27 into the show. Check it out on the tube.

I think I'd prefer not to have anyone that stupid as a client, as they'd surely be nothing but a headache.

This calls for war!

Billions in reparations!

FFS, what is the world coming to? It's a soap opera.

My mom is a Fillipino Nurse (trained in Manilla) and is more successful than most of her peers in 2 hospitals. She also has a bit more common sense.

A comment like this does kinda sting, but it doesn't bother me because I know it wouldn't bother my mom. She knows how to laugh at herself.

Call me crazy, but I honestly can't see what that has to do with anything?

What's so hard to understand, if you ain't got nothing nice to say, they don't wanna hear it. They don't want to offend the mods wife. Duh...McFly, anyone home?
