Filipino food in general?
Hmm.. I don't think it's right for you to make generalizations.

What if I were to say American food gets you fat quicker?
It would seem true with Americans being the most obese in the world, but you don't hear me complaining.

Maybe you need to spend time in a farm and get some fresh air and dung.

Don't generalize a whole group. If you are complaining about the smell of food from your office workers, then just mention them. But don't make generalities.

Ask them politely not to bring stinky food into the office. Other people have to work too.

Ok...

Why is it "The Philippines", yet "Filipino"?

Beats me, but thats what they call them selves.

I'm Filipino, and I don't know why.
BTW, I take offense to many of the things said here. While some foods taste and smell not good.... some of it is very very good.
I don't think anyone cares that you take offense.

That's why in a later post I said "no biggie"

Be glad it isn't kimchi. The aroma that gives off is one you don't forget. You can always tell when a ROK has had it. you can tell from 5' away.

Filipinos like to use "fish sauce" in much of their cooking. Fish sauce is exactly what it sounds like.........a liquid that smells like fish. It is extremely salty and has the powerful odor and taste and essence of fish. They use it in such a common way that you could compare it to Americans using ketchup or salt.

Let me tell you, just a tiny bit of that fish sauce can stink up a full size house. I don't particularly like the smell either. That said, the food does not taste bad (to me at least), but I always smell like fish after I eat it.

Their native language did not have the letter P... just the F sound... or is it the other way around... something like that. Anyway that's also why they pronounce some words begining with P as F and vice versa... it's confusing i know. My parents do it all the time.

Anyway... as for the smell... my family eats some things that does smell rather baaad... but i guess they like it. I for one refuse to eat it... :D I'm somewhat not offended... but i do hope some of you realize that there are other people around the world that say the same thing about what you eat. :)

I could be wrong, but I remember someone explaining that due to the Spanish occupation a while back, they declared the country to be called the Filipinas in honor of Philip II. So I guess the spanish name Filipinas stuck for Filipinos and somehow the country became the Philippines because it was in honor of Philip II. eh?

TO them they're prolly thinking about all the $hitty disgusting food you eat and why you stink up the office. They probably try to cover up ur smell with air freshners but just couldn't cover up ur stench.

My GF is Filipino and I've been living with her and her mom for well over four years now. I still can't get used to that stank smell of the fish being cooked. I know exactly what you're talking about.

I'm Filipino, some food I love the smell of, some I detest. We do eat many foods that many would never try, however, it's subjective and a matter of preference, I for one cannot stand the smell or taste of chili.

Having lived & worked with Filipinos for nearly 10 years - never found their food that smelly - but it tasted horrible. Could never get used to it - till today cannot eat that stuff. (And I'm quite adventurous where food is concerned)
