FileZilla free alternatives?

I just tried FileZilla and it shows empty directories on my hosted server.

The program recently switched from using a widely-compatible listing command to one that fails on half the servers out there. The response from the FileZilla forum admin (the author?) is just "fix the server, it's not fully RFC xxx compliant."

In other words, he's enough of a standards snob he'd rather make the program useless than support servers that users have no hope of getting upgraded.

It's a free program so he makes the rules, but that makes it useless for me.

I'm not sure why he refuses to offer an option to force using the LIST command instead of the MLSD extension.

Yep, and there are similar "my way or not at all" responses in other threads.

Couldn't you use an older version?

I'm considering that, but it would be a dead version if I run into bugs.

Thanks for the other suggestions I'll check them out.

I don't see why you'd be mad at the filezilla dev, you should be mad at your hosting provider for using a non compliant ftp server.

From the threads, half the servers in the world aren't good enough for him. This is a server at pair.com, not bob's $1/year hostin' garage.

I'm not mad, just disappointed at his snobbish crusade to stop supporting real-world servers that aren't compliant enough.
