I myself would take a good burger or chicken sandwich over steak any day.

Thats what happens when your parents only take you to the Sizzler or Ponderosa.

Smartass comment aside, its all about the quality of steak and establishment. End of story.

No, I just prefer burger or chicken

my wife is the same. she prefers a burger or chicken (heck sometimes even a hot dog) over steak.

The inference there is that you are a little girl.

Filet is overrated. I call it the steak for people who like to pretend they love steak. The reason is because it is extremely tender but also very lean and lacking in flavor. The true steak lover's cut is ribeye.

Overrated.

Ribeye kicks the shit out of it, as well as any other cut of beef.

I used to go there on a regular basis when work was paying and every once in awhile I'd get it for some damn reason in hopes of it being better. It never was.

Hell, Outbacks filet is about 100x better than that garbage.

Also, for me I hate fat on a steak or chewyness.

You said you like a Ribeye, which I can't even stomach due to the amount of fat in it.

Everyone likes different things though.

We're talking steak here, filet mignon on a grill.

Had it again for probably the 7th time. Decided to give it another shot cuz I've never really found a filet that blew me away. I was not shocked at the result. Went to Longhorn Steakhouse in Parsippany, NJ. The steak actually came out medium rare, which was a surprise. 9oz filet wrapped in bacon.

Was it tender? Definitely. Was it medium-rare? Yep. Was it tasty? Questionable. Sure it was good...but it didn't really have any taste. Has the peppery-ness of the slight rub, but it just doesn't have any taste. I'd rather have a rib eye anyday.

I think NY strip, flat iron (that's the new cut right?) and hanger steaks are OK, but the rib eye is definitely the grand daddy of them all (w/o dropping obscene amounts for wagyu-style beef).

Note that I have not eaten at Mortons, Ruth's Chris, Cut, or Maestro yet. I have dropped 50+ on steaks before at various restaurants, however.

I prefer to grill steaks myself. Rib eye + salt/pepper or montreal steak seasoning + weber + natural charcoal FTW

As someone who worked as a butcher for 5 years, I can say that if you were to blind fold a person and feed them high quality spencer (ribeye) and a tenderloin, they'll love the ribeye more. That is of course assuming you cut from the eye, there are areas that will have lines (not marbling) of fat/gristle. But the funny thing is that the eye is about the size of your average tenderloin. Ribeye is just about as tender inn the eye as a filet, but has much better flavor.

So, IMO, tenderloin is overrated.

As to the poll, I voted better restaurant. A filet 'can' be godly - unfortunately it's a crap shoot - especially in restaurants. Only speculation but I assume, with the price of feed skyrocketing as the result of ethanol production, that farmers are using substitutes.

I had a rib-eye at a Longhorn's once - lots of grease and gristle. Sent it back twice and finally bagged it for the dogs. They liked it - I let them fill out the satisfaction survey.

When grilling, I don't use any additives - salt, sauce, etc. I assume that if the steak is good enough, nothing else is required - or else I might as well be eating hamburger.

The only thing better than a good steak might be a good home-grown tomato.

They're the exact same thing though, the t-bone is just further along the tapered edge so you get a smaller fillet in the t-bone.

The biggest t-bone and smallest porterhouse are indistinguishable from each other and could be ambiguously labeled as one or the other.

How close are you to Carlstadt? Save your opinion until you've had the filet at Steve's Sizzling Steaks on Route 17.

Lol, I don't know why people think that one is so much better than the other. The porterhouse is just the first couple cuts on the loin. Hell, we'd label all the bigger t-bones as porterhouses.

because the porterhouse typically has a bigger fillet portion then a T-bone. wich does make it better.

Since they are usually priced roughly the same i usually get a porterhouse (if thats what i am in the mood for)

Oh, of course. But to say think that a Porterhouse is god and a t-bone is shit just strikes me as funny. IIRC, I think we charged a couple dollars more per pound for porterhouses.

that's like saying small penises are essentially the same as larger penises. sure, in ESSENCE they are the same, but in EFFECT are vastly different.
