Win XP P SP1, I have over 5000 files in c:\ that end with unserscore, Is this typical?

Give some examples of the file names... Cross check the modified date of the files with any other files in your system. Do this by searching for "files created or modified on this date."

No, it's not normal.

Looks like you accidentally unzipped files to this location, or used some stupid 16 bit extractor that did it.

In all likelihood you can safely delete them.

yep, sounds like what NogginBoink said. Files that ends with .xx_ are compressed files that an installed will extract. Probably some 16-bit application.
