Ive been going nuts thinking that ive been misplacing files and data on my network for a couple days now... only to discover today that vista seems to randomly deleting files from the machine.

It is on the rig in sig, yesterday i restored an MP3 backup i did before the move. Confirmed the number of files in the folder matched the number on the backup, and made 3 CDs for my car using WMP10. I wake up today and go to play the songs, 2 of them are now gone.

-All drivers are up to date.
-System is 24 hour orthos and memtest stable. It was also at stock speed and voltage when the problem occured.
-There is nothing related to any disk cleanup operations going on overnight.
-There is nothing in the event viewer.
-Entire applications have disappeared in the past, formatting and reinstalling windows did not fix this issue.
-I did not have this issue in Vista 32 on the same rig at 2GB with a E4300 @ 3.2ghz.

Im really thrown under the bus on this one, as an experienced power user, any ideas guys?

No strange sounds from the drive, and no SMART errors.

Wouldnt i probably be seeing errors for read/write failures if that was the case?

Could be bad sectors. Have you run chkdsk?

I can, i think my version of vista is horribly corrupted from overclocking memory too far.

I have a new radiator, pump, and blocks arriving monday. Ill format and see if the problem persists.

Ill run checkdisk.

Id run Memtest on it for a while and also you may want to try to replace the SATA cable. I had a bad SATA cable corrupt data on a drive before.

The HD is IDE, the system is memtest stable, ive also rolled the system back to stock in an effort to track down the problem.

chkdsk recovered 6 files (theres more than 100 still missing), found no bad sectors.

upon restart one of the nvidia DLLs vanished into thin air.... had to reinstall the drivers.
