how can i transfer files from my computer to a friend's, over the internet? is there any way that doesnt go through a 3rd party server, like AIM's? or at least one that doesnt limit your speed to 56k.

What ISP are you using? Most residential ISPs limit the upload speed you can have to 56k, 128k, or 256k. That helps them maximize their bandwidth, and prevent people from using their network for mass file distribution or web hosting.

You're probably not going to increase your speed signifigantly over using AIM than with another service. You've probably been capped.

nothing to worry about there. im not sure exactly what mine is... checking an online speed test...

ok, came up with over 9mb down, and over 8mb up. fiber is about the same price as cable here.

Hehe...nice line speed, dude. I'm impressed. I'd probably agree with n0cmonkey...sending it through DCC is pretty easy. Also, if you're running Windows XP, you can setup IIS and host a site. This is a little tricky to set up if you're not familiar with it, but easy for your buddy once it's setup.
