why does the buick weigh that much?

IMO Buick continues to rely on outdated and homely designs,

did you read the article?

Yes. It doesn't change my opinion that this is an ugly car with a design that is appealing primarily to the AARP market segment.

Now the question is, would any of you actually buy the Buick over the Lexus if you had the choice...?

I would

i'd take the genesis over both of these snoozemobiles

You think the Buick and the Lexus are "snoozemobiles" and the Genisis isn't?

damn straight

And what makes the Genesis so much better than the LaCrosse? Both have soft suspensions and the target market would never notice the difference between fwd and rwd. The v8 is something the LaCrosse lacks but if there is demand, I'm sure the General can just as easily stick in the LS_ and make a budget CTSV with AWD.

I'm just curious as to why you guys would take the Genesis. IMO the LaCrosse looks much better than the Genesis in the real world. The Genesis looks like it has a droopy rear end.

genesis is cheaper and has way better ( although ripped off of mercedes) styling than granny's buick and the rebadged camry

i will never buy an american car, but i would also never buy a lexus.

my parents have an ES330 and its like driving a moving couch.

Lexus has most certainly gotten lazy. The Lexus of the 90s is nothing like the Lexus of today and it's really disappointing. Nothing like getting a high end sedan for $35K in 1989 only to have that balloon to $50K in 1994 for that same vehicle because they know it sells.

Paying excess amounts of money for a depreciating asset FTW!

The proper demographic on these cars doesn't look at them as an asset.

That's where I personally think you're wrong. The Genesis seems almost generic. Sure it's very well put together and a great value but it's styling is very bland and boring to me. The LaCrosse on the other hand looks stunning to me inside and out.

The styling is understated and great for those drivers who don't want to stick out. For better or worse, it seems the new American models (Ford, Lincoln, Buick, Cadillac) are eye-catching.

Hyundai is doing a great job offering so much quality and features for a lower price. And I think its building a new plant in Georgia for those who want jobs to stay in the USA.

Genesis looks better, has v-8 option, and I'd bank on Hyundai's reliability over Buicks (even though I know that Buick cars are fairly reliable). Also, throw in some GM stigma and a bad taste left in people's mouth and you've got an easy decision.

WTF, the Lexus still comes with a cassette player?

So? Not everyone has converted their entire music library to CD and it's nice to have the option for a cassette as well. As a matter of fact, I was listening to an old Moody Blues cassette just yesterday and thinking how glad I was that my Volvo accepted both cassettes and CDs.

It's not as though they put the cassette player in there in lieu of a CD player; it's in addition to, not instead of.

That is a little odd in a newer car. I think it's a bit of a nod to the fact that it sells to an older demographic. I would assume a cassette deck is now more expensive for a carmaker to buy than a CD player, simply for economy of scale reasons, which makes its presence even more surprising. I am a pretty avid music fan and I don't recall playing a cassette since the mid-90s (when I was still playing cassettes in my 12-year-old Accord).

What? Really? Buicks have been more reliable for much longer than Hyundai. Hyundai has just started to turn it's reputation around. I'm not trying to dis Hyundai but it's way to soon to tell whether or not they will have good long term reliability.

I saw a new LaCrosse today (drive by) and I like it. I don't think it had the dual tailpipes though and that was a disappointment. Would like a closer look later (maybe after my job situation clears up, lol).

I know pictures and in-person can be different, but the Buick to me is much better looking. It's muscular, very modern, and unique. The Genesis just looks like an prior generation Mercedes, and the Lexus looks plain. I also believe that the Buick went as far as the could with the design without offending their audience. In general, I'm happy with the new Buick, CTS, Fusion, and the various versions of the GMC Acadia.

Cassette players have no place in a modern car, period. You should know better!

Maybe an 8-track option too?

Do you still use floppy disks at home? 😛

The Genesis isn't that great. Solid car, but should be ranked third out of the these three cars. I would buy the Buick or the Lexus before it.

lol its great how there so many "i'll buy a buick over a lexus anyday" posts here, yet nobody would ever buy one for themselves. hahahah the irony is great

yea i'll get a buick too, not.

Kia (owned by Hyundai) is building a billion dollar plant in Georgia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kia

Hyundai built a $1.1 billion dollar plant in Alabama a few years ago and a big design center in California.
