We're not saying the Lexus ES 350 is not a fine automobile; we're just saying its time has passed as a standard by which entry-level luxury sedans are to be measured. For that, you must consider the 2010 Buick LaCrosse CXS as the new leader in its class.

What at first appeared to be a put-up-or-shut-up proposition for Buick has resulted in a thorough embarrassment for Lexus. The two entry-level luxury sedans are effectively tied in our ratings of performance and fuel, but every place else ? evaluation scores, feature content and price ? the 2010 Buick LaCrosse walks away from the 2009 Lexus ES 350 with a decisive 17-point victory.

Why is this a Holy Shit category??? Tons of American cars have gotten better reviews than their Japanese counterparts but it does nothing to help the stigma. Look at the Malibu. It was rated highly but the stigma still stands. I can pretty much guarantee you that nobody would cross shop these. I really like the Lacrosse. It's a great looking vehicle but no one but old people buys Buicks and rich people in China.

Lexus has most certainly gotten lazy. The Lexus of the 90s is nothing like the Lexus of today and it's really disappointing. Nothing like getting a high end sedan for $35K in 1989 only to have that balloon to $50K in 1994 for that same vehicle because they know it sells.

So time to go for hyundai?

Large random sample surveys > single reviews every time.

That's why Japanese cars still enjoy their reputation and resale values.

When did 12.8 cubic feet become "big" in terms of trunk capacity? That's horrible. Some compacts beat that out.

Not that it makes or breaks the car but still...how a car that weighs 4000 pounds have so little room in the trunk?

The trunk is smaller as the back seats have a LOT of leg room. Look at the back seat pic here...

And no this not a opel. It is on the same design, just 2nd generation - Epsilon II, like the Aura/Malibu.

Now the question is, would any of you actually buy the Buick over the Lexus if you had the choice...?

Off lease for half the price? You betcha.

😀

Paying excess amounts of money for a depreciating asset FTW!

Yes...if I was in the market for such a car. I'd recommend this to my parents over the Lexus in a heartbeat (this comes from a guy who drives a Toyota and wife drives a Honda).

i would agree with the 'lexus is lazy' sentiment. both they and acura seem to think that rebadging cheaper vehicles automatically makes them 'luxury.'

With the way Hyundai's been going... might be. They managed to go from shit to shine with one car.

Buicks are nice. I wish they could shed the old-man stereotype though. I'd buy one if I could afford it, and I'm only 25.

Most def, ES is a booooring car. That being said, I'd wait for the Buick Insignia, especially the turbo awd version.

Honestly I would never buy an ES350 or ANY Buick. IMO Buick continues to rely on outdated and homely designs, and the old-man stigma remains powerful. Ironically, at least from a styling perspective, Olds started to get their shit together before GM killed the brand - now Buick is the car of choice for elderly people with a bit of money.

You seriously believe this is the same old outdated bland Buick? This is one of the only Buicks that I've ever considered, the other of course being the GNX.

why does the buick weigh that much?

I would

i'd take the genesis over both of these snoozemobiles

The only thing that would draw me to the Genesis is the price. Otherwise it looks very bland and boring to me vs. the Buick.

More or less, yes. It's not AS bad as the bad old Buicks, but it's still ugly and not something I would ever entertain the idea of buying. To each his own I guess.
