File sharing with Win 2k

I recently upgraded (reformatted) a PC running Win98 and it's now running Win2k Professional. That PC can see all the other computers on my home network and copy files and such, but my other computers can't access the Win2k. When I click on that PC I get prompted for a password. I don't want to have any passwords or anything between the PCs.

I tried right-clicking on C and going to the SHaring area but it's already shared and such. How do I get rid of the required password prompt when I select the computer? I don't even get as far as seeing what is shared on the PC, I get it right when I select that PC.

If the share you're talking about on the 2k pc is C$ , create a new one . You shouldn't have to touch any permissions , the defaults will be fine.

Then get a list of all the usernames and passwords that are being used to log into the win98 machines and create those same user accounts on the 2k machine.
In win2k right click on my computer --> manage --> local users and groups.

Creating those accounts with their corresponding passwords on the 2k machine is the only way to not get prompted for a username and password when trying to access the pc's through network neighborhood.
 
None of the other PCs require any passwords or anything. My 98 PC does pop up with a Login window which just has my name and a blank password or something, and my XP machine doesn't have any sort of login at all.

Both PCs pop up a login to get access to the 2k PC before I can even see the shares that are setup on it. I think if I type in "Administrator" as the login it will let me know, but I just wanted a way to not have to do that.

I'll see what happens.
 

The "name" that you mention is your username , it isn't required to log into 98 , but it's still there for profile purposes and for file sharing . If you've never associated a password with that username , fine , just create the user account on the 2k pc without the password.

I know exactly what your problem is , and this is the way to fix it.

 

Your XP pc has a login , you're just set to automatically log on. You'll have to do the same thing for the XP machine. Press ctrl-alt-del to find out what username your logged in as in xp and create an identical account on the 2k machine.
