File Sharing with PS3

MY friend wants to be able to look at his photos that are on his PC on his TV through his PS3.

Can someone give me step by step instructions please.

I assume he has Windows XP, possibly Vista.

Just installed that lastnight and it is pretty slick. Plays most of the movies I have but I haven't really tweaked it any yet. Now I just need to get around to doing the trick to get hulu working and I'm set.

You do not even need to add anything on your computer. The PS3 should see it if you give it access, I believe.

nope. hulu started blocking ps3 users. The broadcasters don't want you to actually use hulu to watch crap on your tv.

Thats the trick for getting around it which I just did. Unfortunately the PS3's version of flash it out of date so it still doesn't work. Got to wait for the next update.

i used tversity and it works great. all of the media on the PC is available for browsing as long as my PC is turned on. pics, tunes, vids, everything. easy to set up.

Used ps3 media server and it works great....a few tweaks had to be made, but works.

I have windows 7 now but I've also used it in vista......Windows Media Player. Choose allow streaming to other devices and choose allow under your device (ps3). I'm able to see my pics and play all my avi files. Of course i had to either share the folders or add the path to them in the public folders.

Just put them on a USB memory stick and plug it into the PS3. Under Vista you can just share the folders inside WMP as an Extender.

I hate to ask this. : ) However what is this hulu?? I did some searching and is it something that allows you to watch TV through it back to your PC? If anyone has any good links on it please post it and thanks!

I've never been able to play .avi files on PS3, it says unsupported file type. They work fine on my PC.

The PS3 can play them natively. You're doing something wrong.
