I'm trying to set up file sharing within my network. I can't seem to get it to work right. This is a conversation I had explaining my problem.

[19:22] Josh H: it crashes explorer?
[19:22] MagiAce: i says i cannot access, i may not have permission
[19:22] Josh H: hmmmmm
[19:22] Josh H: i really dont know off the top of my head
[19:23] Josh H: sorry 🙁

Would really appreciate help on this. What may be causing this problem?

On my network I only use mapping. Right click on My Computer/Map Network Drive. Type //[the other PC IP]/[the share name] and then click different username and type in the user name and password from the other computer.

Seems i can access the desktops networked drive if i manually type it in, but i doesn't show up as a network place.

My desktop on the other hand, cannot access the laptop at all. When i view the mshome workgroup it shows laptop, when i click on it i'm told I cannot access it. When i type it in manually it doesn't even find it.

I would restart samba on the laptop, /etc/init.d/samba restart...

but I only know to do that because you gave us all the information.
