File sharing OK in XP, but not in 2000? (Dual Boot rig)

I have a dual boot desktop rig (XP & 2000). I have shared certain drives, and I can access them when the rig is in XP. However, when it is in 2000 (which it is most of the time), I can't get it access the drives. The computer says that I might not have permissions and that the network path cannot be found.

I can access the files when it is XP, but not 2000? What gives?

Thanks

Is the login name and password on the account for each OS the same?, is one using ntfs and the other fat32? are any drives, files, folders, or partitions encripted?

I'm trying to parse that to determine exactly what your situation is. Reading between the lines... Are you saying that, when the dual boot system is booted into Windows XP that OTHER machines on your network can see and access the shares but that when the dual boot system is booted into Windows 2000 that the OTHER machines on your network can NOT see and access the shares? - OR - Are you saying that you can't access all files and folder on the dual boot system from within the Windows 2000 OS? If it's the former, then it's a shares problem that might be complicated by an ownership issue. If it's the latter then it's probably just an ownership / permissions problem. It sounds like you're talking about a network issue, but I'm not quite clear as to your exact situation. I'm sorry if I'm being dense.

The first.

When I boot into XP, I can access my shared files from other computers. When I boot into Win2k, I cannot.

So, you didn't see anything unusual when you told Windows 2000 to share these folders / drives, right? When booted into Windows 2000 an inspection of those shared drives and folders shows the ownership and permissions are okay? I've never done this (trying to create and use network shares off of BOTH operating systems on a dual boots system), but I'm wondering if this could have something to do with the different SIDs for the two operating system installations?

Must ponder...

What you are seeing is the shared files information coming from your other computers. I have 2 xp computers and whatever has been shared in the network remains on both computers even when I switch over to win98 on my dual boot. Don't flip out it is normal. You just have to specify the sharing on both OS's.

I have gone into the sharing the folders in 2k and have set the permissions. Therefore, the permissions look OK in 2k.

I am using a broadband router/hub.

The same drives are shared in both OSes.

I think I answered them all....
