I have a small 6 PC LAN in my house. I have file/print sharing installed on all machines. My problem is I cannot get to the shared drives on my two win2k Pro machines from my 9x machines. When I try to connect to the win2k Pro machines I get a prompt to "Enter Network Password to Connect". The only pw on the win2k machines is the admin pw, when I enter that it returns "Invalid pw". I've been over and over and over all the shared drive settings in win2k Pro but I absolutely DON'T see any place to enter a sharing pw. In win9x it's VERY easy to the sharing and pw for each drive...I can connect to those drives easily. The only option in win2k I see are to add Groups for the share, I've added EVERYONE>Full Control....still no go.

What am I missing here? I really need to be able to access the drives on my 2 win2k Pro machines. BTW - The drives are fomatted in FAT32 so my 9x PC's can read them. Also, I have a win2k server and I can access it's drives with no problem....it's just these w2k pro machines that are driving me crazy. I don't "log-in" to my network, all my shares are wide-open on the LAN.

you need to set up a accounts for your win9x machines - user/password/priviledges. it's somewhere in administration options, under users.

Thanks tuffguy. :)

I did find someone here that had a similar problem and there was a link to an Anandtech article, LOL. I think my problem is actually on the 9x machines! STRANGE! No wonder I have been going crazy, I think the prompt is actually from the 9x client machine and not the host w2k pro machine. I will play with it again tonight....hope I get it.

Thanks payjo!

LOL...we were writting at the same time. That did the trick! I just had to create a user account on the 9x machines and log in. :)
