I would like to install a file server on my wrt54gl router (dd-wrt firmware) to replace my current file server. I've thought of buying a case (with ethernet support) for one of the HDD and adding a mmc card to the router, but I'm not sure this will work. I can't put money into this if I'm not 100% it will work. What do you think?

You only need a pc with about a 500mhz cpu and 128mb ram to make it work.
Then you can put any size HD in the box, hook that to a switch and your set.

My current fileserver is a pentium 4, but I'd like to replace it because I have my gaming rig in the same room and it gets pretty hot (the AC has to be on while I'm on my computer)
JackMDS, a NAS box looks like alot of trouble (many if not all of the people who bought one had problems with the drivers). My idea is more "elegant": add a memory card (only 6 cables to solder to the router), install the software/s on this card (this is the part I'm not sure how and if it will work), connect a HDD with network inteface to the router.
