File renaming in Win 7

Is there a program that makes it easy to rename files in Windows 7? I'm looking for something that will I guess just take away the need to right click and hit rename... just open up the text line for me to change at will. I don't want to just batch add or remove a data or number to every file.

In Win7 (and probably Vista) when you hit F2/Rename it leaves the extension unselected so you can just start typing.

Oh, sweet. Good to know. I would think too that if you had the option to "Hide extensions for known file types" enabled it would highlight the extension as well. However, I prefer extensions be shown for everything.

Yea, it took MS long enough to emulate that feature and the breadcrumb browsing that other filemanagers have had for years.

If you have extensions hidden neither OS will select them, obviously.

A little off topic but do you guys know of an "add-in/plugin" to bring back the "up" button for windows explorer in Win7. I know the entire path is shown in the address bar, but when you get pretty deep into a directory it can't show the entire path. Any thoughts?

Does backspace do that or does it just go "back"? I never really paid attention since back/up are usually the same thing for me.

I thought it was ALT + Left Arrow key to go "back" a directory level (and go forward for Right Arrow key)...

Well yes, both of those methods still work. But I'm talking about when you're using the mouse. XP had an 'up arrow' where it would bump you up a level in the directory. And 'back' and 'up' are not the same thing.

Backspace and ALT + Left arrow are back, ALT + Right arrow is forward, and ALT + Up is Up.
