File recovery

I had a new hard disk controller go on the fritz, and it screwed up my partitions, I've recovered one already, but the logical partition i have after it isnt going so well.

Several commercial programs have shown me the files on the drive, and it seems to be all intact, but none of them allow the actual recovery of the files without paying a pretty penny.

Any ideas other than fdisk, format and move on?

Sorry I cannot be of more help.

I once had a problem that cannot be solved by sevral commerical progarms but found some intructions on MSKB and it actually solved my problem (copying info from back-up FAT table to the one that has been messed up). I think I had FAT32, though, not even sure if the practice applies for NTFS.

Partition Magic might be able to fix it. I have used PM for everything else but do not know if it will work for this sort of problem.
