I've set up a small (only two PC's right now, eventually 4 or 5) 100 mbps switched network in my home. Both systems are running 2000 Pro, file system is NTFS (obviously).
I have a directory of JPG images on my system, on which I am logged in as admin. I used start/run/ "\\livingroom\c$" to gain access to the HD on the system upstairs. I copied the directory from my system onto the desktop of one of my users on the other system. I then logged in as that user & attempted to open the images. Although Windows Explorer could create a thumbnail of the image, no software on the system was able to open the images. I got messages saying the file type was unknown, no registry entries existed for it, etc. I couldn't even open the images from Paint or MS Photo Editor.
I went back to my system & copied the folder into my shared directory. I went back to livingroom, logged in as admin, & copied the directory onto my own desktop. I was then able to read the files fine. Since I had the files locally I copied them directly onto the same user's desktop. Again, when logged in as the user I was unable to open the files.
File permissions on the directory & it's contents were set to allow full access to all users.
Any thoughts as to why this is happening?
