File Compression

Anyone know of a file compression utility that'll make use of my 2 cores?

I glanced in the free SW thread but no real descriptions. I'd prefer free, but I'll pay if I have to, I'd just like these backups to go faster. And yes I know at some point it's I/O bound, but honestly the program could probably cache it to RAM, I've got plenty. (Easy to say I know.)

WinRAR does, not free, and not sure if it supports >2 cores, but it should.

Edit: Looks like 7-zip supports multi-threading too. Free and open source!

Isn't the whole point of dual-core as opposed to dual-cpu that you don't need multithreading to use all the processing power? In any case this one says it is definitely multithreaded: http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Prog...veX/Xceed_Zip_Compression_Library.html

No. For all practical purposes, dual-core = dual-cpu. Your OS still need seperate threads for each core.
