I've jsut gotten a new PC, and I'm still getting things set up to my preffs.

I want Musicmatch to playmy MP3's, and WIndows Medi Playerto do all video types.

Ive already gone into the individual programs and set the file associations the way i want them,
but when i right click on folders of music and click "play" or "add to playlist" media player comes up.

Does anyone know how to change those right-click menus to music match?

Hi,

You should go to:

Control Panel --> Folder Options --> File Types

And select which file name extension you wish to associate with which program.

(i.e. .WMA with WMP9)

Good luck,

If you double click on an MP3, does it play in MusicMatch?

I think the problem here is you are using the right-click menu on folders, which is not simply playing the files with the associated program. The options you are clicking are specifically placed there by Media Player, kind of like if you install AOL Instant messanger, it puts "AIM Buddy" in your "send to" list. It doesn't matter if another program is your default player, if you specifically click an item that links to media player, its gonna play in media player.

yes, it is. I 'm trying to find out how to change these.

when i click directly on an mp3 i get music match(desired)
when i right-click on a folder w/ mp3's and press "play" or "add to playlist" I get media player (not desired)

the question is how do i change these menus? I would still like these 2 options("play" or "add to playlist") I would just like them to go to musicmatch.

if anyone knows how to change these it would greatly help.

Well, you can look at what exactly those options are in one of two places:

edit: oops, was looking at the wrong thing, you're not talking about send to.....

Not sure where the regular right click stuff is stored, I'll see if I can find it if nobody else here knows.

I don't have these shortcuts, so I'm not sure how they work, but most of them are just shortcuts to the exe which you could change to musicmatch.

Of course you need to know the command line options for musicmatch to perform the functions you want (such as add to playlist). Perhaps they are available in a readme or something.

-------------------------------

Ok, it appears these are under the file type in the registry under SHELLEX folder. The regular SHELL part has the things like "PLAY" and "OPEN" which point to an EXE, (yours would be musicmatch). However, the SHELLEX part has the stranger things like add to playlist, however these just refer to other keys somewhere, not directly to the exe file. I didn't look into it farther than that, I'm assuming it is referring to other stuff in the registry that will show how to interact with the program.

Too rich for my blood. Unless somebody else here who knows more than me cares to take a shot, I'd say you're outta luck unless musicmatch will put shortcuts of this sort in there for you.

What you're looking for is in

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mp3file

as you'll see, the SHELL area has your standard open and play options, which simply point to the program to run (this is what you are changing in your file associations).

In SHELLEX, you'll see the WMP specific entries for these other options. (add to play list, etc...)

These things are placed by WMP there, so they don't have anything to do with your file associations. The add to play list item, for example, points to "{F1B9284F-E9DC-4e68-9D7E-42362A59F0FD}", which simply states "WMP add to play list launcher" and makes some sort of call to WMPSHELL.DLL.

These are not things you can simply point to musicmatch and have work, they are part of the functionality of WMP. In order for musicmatch to have these options, musicmatch would have to add them in there itself. I have no idea if this is something it is capabale of or not, you'd have to check with them. I would doubt that it is, or else they probably would have already put them there.

Please make note that I really have no idea what I'm talking about. ;)

I cant really do anything in regedit (cause I dont know what I'm doing)

Please help.

I need to findout how to remove/edit items on the right-click drop down menus.

Specifically: I'm now using winamp to play mp3's. musicmatch to burn mp3's, and windows media player to view all types of video. when I right click on a mp3 file i get:

Play in Winamp
Unque in Winamp
Add to winamp bookmark list // remove
open //remove
copy to CD
add to playlist //reomve
play with media player //remove
open with
Winamp
Windows media player
Musicmatch
Realplayer
-------
choose program

If i click on a folder containing mp3's the "play in winamp" option is below the "enque in winamp" button,
this is something I can live with, but I'd like to know how to rid myself of the extras. I've tryied unistalling and reinstalling these players w/ minimum features and shutting off all the setting I can.
but I cant get rid of them.

Please help.

Simply deleting the registry entries in the areas we discussed above should do the trick.

BACK UP YOUR REGISTRY before doing anything of the sort.
