I'm usually not a fan of bottled water- we have a filtered water dispenser on our 'fridge that works great. However, I was just given a 6 pack of Fiji "Natural Artesian Water" and tried some during lunch. It was ice cold, and it had this odd "smooth" texture to it. It's hard to describe, but it was like a "velvety" sensation. I looked it up after lunch (being the geek I am), and people explained that this sensation may be due to the relativily high pH level (7.8) and bicarbonate levels.

Like I said, I'm not usually a fan, but I could see me keeping a stash of this stuff around for those "I'm REALLY thirsty" days :)

LOL yeah Out of all the bottled waters, there is something special about the Fiji water. It is "smooth" like you said. I don't know WTH it is, but I and my wife have noticed it too...

I have never had it, but water drawn from artesian aquifers is going to have the minerals that water has picked up throughout its journey.

FIJI claims the soft taste is from silica picked up as the water filters down into the aquifer. Being that the ground is mostly volcanic rock around Fiji, that makes a lot of sense.

Wiki shows it has 210mg of dissolved solids, which includes Silica, Magnesium, and Calcium, with a pH of 7.5.

"Natural Artesian Water"... I guess you can really afford quality marketing and bottles when you're charging that much for water.

Yep. Idiots will spend 10$ a bottle for "artesian" water that is the same as the stuff that is 5$ for a case of 48 bottles.

I don't buy bottled water, but do you know what "artesian" means?

Large, old aquifer. Personally, I kind of want to go out and try Fiji.

Not all water sources are the same. For the people who have artesian aquifers as the source of their municipal water supply, they will likely say they have delicious water.

And whoever spends that much for water is an idiot. Fiji is a little pricey compared to most water, but I'd argue it's likely better than most other pricey bottled waters.

Personally, if I have to drink bottled water, I am a fan of Ice Mountain. Cheap, and tasty, spring-sourced water (i.e. an aquifer.).

Difference though, is all aquifers are definitely not the same. Volcanic rock as a filter substrate probably lends a better taste than limestone and whatnot.

It's also terrible for the environment. It takes a lot of diesel to ship water halfway around the world...

As for the quality, I've had it a couple times because I was stuck in places that sold it exclusively, I haven't noticed it being any better.

There is a difference between shitty tap water and higher-end bottled water. EKT.

Before you start making fun of something you don't know about, get to know Fiji water a bit first.

It actually comes from a giant underground aquifer in Fiji. The volcanic rock adds minerals that make it unique, and if it wasn't a bit different, I wouldn't have posted about how much I enjoyed it. Like I said, I'm not a bottled water guy, but this threw me a curve ball.

I have an RO/DI unit at home. We use the RO water for home drinking (5 gal containers with water cooler) and the RO/DI water for out salt water aquarium.

Making great tasting water for CHEAP!

Sure, but there's not much difference between budget bottled water and higher end bottled water. I don't drink tap water because the area I'm in has had waaaaaaayyyyyy too many superfund sites and nobody really gives a crap about what they put into the ground. But I can get reverse osmosis purified water for pretty cheap, so I fill up 3 gallon jugs for my water cooler. Fiji water would not be an improvement over this.

Davis tap water taste like crap. Too much calcium and other minerals from the wells. Because of this, I fill up 5 gallon jugs with RO water for 30 cents/gallon.

My water comes from the Edwards Aquifer, love it... except when you leave a glass with some in it overnight... hooray hard water stains.

Fiji owns, it tastes much better than any other water I've had. Expensive? No not really, it cost more than tap water sure, but $1.50 a day for a bottle of Fiji isn't what I'd consider expensive. For a place full of 23 year old multi-millionaires I'm surprised this water would be called expensive. Trader Joes has it for a good price. $1.50 a day is worth ir for me for something I enjoy, but hay that's just me *shrug*

$100 says in a blind taste test you can't pick the right water.

I'll take you up on this, easiest $100 I'd make all week, the minerals in it give Fiji a very distinct taste over every other water I've drank.
