I'm looking for a new fan.

What I'm eyeing at the moment

Would a 1500 cfm fan be enough to cool:

AMD XP2600+ (@53 degrees C stock)
On-board everything (VIA KM400 chipset, MSI KM4M-L mobo)
7200 rpm HD

If you need more information, ask for it, sorry, but I'm new at this.

Having one of those fans as an intake and one as an exhaust would probably do fine if you aren't planning to overclock. Those fans don't push much air, but without a hot video card and only one harddrive, it should be adequate. They're certainly very quiet.

What kind of heatsink do you have on the chip? If it's a stock HSF, buying an aftermarket cooler could do wonders to cut noise and improve cooling performance.

OK, I found out a bit more.

The fan is stock, and comes with the Dragon tower.

The CPU fan is a CoolerMaster CP5-6J31C.

Is there a CPU fan or heatsink which is very easy to mount? I'm new to fiddling with hardware (CPUs anyway).

I'm probably going to switch both fan and CPU fan while I'm at it.

I have found it's slightly better to buy a higher speed set of fans and then slow them down till I get the right balance of noise and cooling.

As for CPU cooler if you want something nice and compact which is pretty much needed for your mobo then you could try either the coolermaster Jet7 or Aero 7 series.

These Heatsinks clip to the side of the CPU socket and are really quite easy to install. Takes a bit more force than you think though.

Don't forget some heatsink compound - Any Artic Silver will do nicely.

Will I need to adjust voltages and stuff or do all fans use the same?

By the way...I'd rather not mod my fan, or my my CPU fan, or my CPU. By this I mean, I just want to buy stock fans and install them, not tweak them, really. I noticed that the Coolermaster fans don't have loudness ratings, I wonder why?

Thinking about this chassis fan.

Also, this case seems to have only one fan.


I think I have some variant of this for a CPU fan. LOOK AT THE NOISE RATING.

Are there any relatively quiet CPU fans? :/

Aero 7+

This can be loud or quiet - you won't need it to be turned up with the XP 2600+.

I have a Papst 8412NGML in my other computer and it's great - won't have any problems there.

If you could fir one a Zalman would be great but they use up a lot of space - quiet as a mouse though.

There's a but it would be beneficial only if I run it in Silent mode. What does this mean, exactly?

Silent mode really just means that it makes very little noise.

You may want to consider the CNPS7000A-AlCu

if it will fit on your mobo, and inside the case.
