There's a water tower

40ft tall

20ft dia

How many gallons of paint will it take to cover this tower

1 gallon=900 sq ft

this is a straightforward problem,


circumfrence = 2 * pi * r

r = diameter /2 = 10 feet

the circumfrence of the water tower is 20 pi feet

imagine if you unrolled the tower it is a rectangle that is 40 feet high and 62.83 feet wide which equals 2513.2 sq feet

2513.2/900 = 2.792 gallons needed to paint the towers outside and double that to paint the inside as well

Do we have to paint the top of the water tower too? What about the underbelly?

if we do then the are of a circle is pi * r ^2 so you can get it from there.

It was a stupid game that we were playing tonight., it sounds dumb now, but how it was worded made it seem harder
