Fighting Soldiers From The Sky

shiner

Lifer
Ballad of the Green Berets by SGT Barry Sadler

Fighting soldiers from the sky,
Fearless men who jump and die.
Men who mean just what they say,
The brave men of The Green Beret.
Silver wings upon their chests,
These are men, America's best,
One hundred men we'll test today,
But only three win The Green Beret.

Trained to live off nature's land,
Trained in combat, hand to hand.
Men who fight by night and day,
Courage take from The Green Beret.

Silver wings upon their chests,
These are men, America's best,
One hundred men we'll test today,
But only three win The Green Beret.

Back at home a young wife waits,
Her Green Beret has met his fate.
He has died for those oppressed.
Leaving her this last request.
Put silver wings on my son's chest,
Make him one of America's best,
He'll be a man they'll test one day,
Have him win The Green Beret.

Wasn't that the Theme song for the worst Movie John Wayne was ever in? "The Green Berets"

Song's cool but that movie sucked!

Ahh you're just made because of the technical screw up at the end of the movie. The Duke NEVER made a bad movie. Before you ask, yes I know about the ones he sang in early on.

No you are wrong, that movie sucked. It was the only one of his that sucked but it sucked.

The first time I ever saw that movie was in a base camp about 15 miles from the DMZ. We were sitting on sandbag walls between the hooches watching it on a sheet we had rigged up. During the scene where the GB's are taking incoming mortars we were all laughing until the scene ended and we kept hearing the mortars. We looked behind us and Charlie was walking 88's right into our compound.

I agree, it was a terrible movie, but it was "The Duke". You love him or you hate him.

He was much better as Rooster Cogsburn with twin Winchesters and the reins in his teeth.

Sorry about that, I was just drowned in a wave of nostalgia.

you mean north koreans were firing mortars at you? woah, isnt that grounds for a full scale nuclear attack????

Me too! That song was popular about a year after I got drafted.
I never knew Barry Sadler was a medic. That's what I did too.
