People who are depressed usually can't pinpoint exactly what is making them depressed.

Next thing, he'll be on Oprah or Maury Povich talking about "how horrible my life was."

Xanax is more of an anti-anxiety med, than an anti-depressant. xanax doesn't impair sexual functioning, but it can be addictive (unlike anti-depressant meds). So be careful, if you do decide to take it. Some anti-depressants don't affect sexual function, like Wellbutrin, or Aurorix. You're in Toronto, Canada? In Canada, I know that Aurorix (moclobemide) is available. That antidepressant has no bad effect on sexual function. Is there poor sunlight in Toronto? If you have moved there from a place with more light, you might be suffering from effects of lack of sunlight, i.e., you might have so-called "SADS" - seasonal affective disorder, basically a depression caused by lack of sunlight. There are "light boxes" which alleviate depression by providing you with a decent source of light, basically you sit in front of them for an hour a day, while e.g., you are doing your homework or using the computer. Supposedly quite effective for this type of depression.

The advice other people gave is probably the most important, which is talk to someone about what's botherig you or what you're going through. Being cut off from usual social networks/ support makes people more vulnerable to depression.

WHy would you want to take drugs? I don't think that you're depressed becuause you're Xanax deficient.

I'd try to find the root cause.

It's anxiety over being alone at school and the fear of losing my girlfriend, and that fear is screwing me up because I can't function properly on a day to day basis. It's a stupid cycle, and the only reason it's an issue is because I thought and thought and thought about it, and made it an issue.

I know it must sound so pathetic, so so pathetic.

That doesn't sound pathetic. Taking drugs sounds pathetic.

Find a responsible person you can talk to about it.

The last thing he needs is puritanical self-righteous morons like you rabbitting on about how "pathetic" it is to take drugs.
