Fighting off depression hard, trying not to slip into it

I've been fighting off depression at school in Toronto for the past 3 weeks or so, and I came home this weekend to try and fight it off but it's not working.

I've been able to kick my own ass back into gear but now it's really weighning on me, I can't sleep at all, maybe 10 hours in the past 4 or 5 days.

I'm going to see my doctor tomorrow, but I don't want to take meds. Any advice would be appreciated guys. I feel so weak.

Edit - Thank you for the support and kind words fellow ATOTers, it's really helping me feel better.

Where are you going to school in Toronto, U of T? I am at Queen's right now and I feel the same way.

See your doctor, but don't underestimate the effectiveness of consistent physical exercise. And sometimes it helps, just to talk to somebody about your problems.

See a counselor, a therapist... etc.

Work out why you are feeling depressed and try to get a grip on it without meds.

Good Luck

I'm going to school at York. I've just been feeling incredibly isolated at school. My girlfriend is wonderful, but I havn't been myself lately and I fear what it might mean for us in the future (this is the main thing driving my anxiety right now).

I've cut everything bad out of my diet, and am trying to get some exercise. No alcohol or drugs.

I usually can get myself out of these moods, but the total lack of sleep is making it really hard. I fear going to sleep because I wake up in this panicked state. It's so stupid, I never feel like this, ever.

Sunlight. Get off ATOT and get in the Sun. I'm serious, supposedly Sun light is good for mental health.

I'll talk to my doctor about the xanax tomorrow, but I worry about what it's going to do to my sexual functions.

WHy would you want to take drugs? I don't think that you're depressed becuause you're Xanax deficient.

I'd try to find the root cause.

The weather in Toronto has been horrible the last two months with no relief in sight, most of the people I know including myself have been depressed. You are not alone hang in there.

It's anxiety over being alone at school and the fear of losing my girlfriend, and that fear is screwing me up because I can't function properly on a day to day basis. It's a stupid cycle, and the only reason it's an issue is because I thought and thought and thought about it, and made it an issue.

I know it must sound so pathetic, so so pathetic.

Jebesus, don't. Xanax is not for depression.

There is nothing wrong with meds. They have helped millions. Taking them and trying to work on reducing triggers makes sense.

That doesn't sound pathetic. Taking drugs sounds pathetic.

Find a responsible person you can talk to about it.
