Israel as a Security Asset for the United States

We, the undersigned, have traveled to Israel over the years with The Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA). We brought with us our decades of military experience and, following unrestricted access to Israel's civilian and military leaders, came away with the unswerving belief that the security of the State of Israel is a matter of great importance to the United States and its policy in the Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean. A strong, secure Israel is an asset upon which American military planners and political leaders can rely. Israel is a democracy - a rare and precious commodity in the region - and Israel shares our commitment to freedom, personal liberty and rule of law.

Throughout our travels and our talks, the determination of Israelis to protect their country and to pursue a fair and workable peace with their neighbors was clearly articulated. Thus we view the current tension between the United States and Israel with dismay and grave concern that political differences may be allowed to outweigh our larger mutual interests.

As American defense professionals, we view events in the Middle East through the prism of American security interests.

The United States and Israel established security cooperation during the Cold War, and today the two countries face the common threat of terrorism by those who fear freedom and liberty. Historically close cooperation between the United States. and Israel at all levels including the IDF, military research and development, shared intelligence and bilateral military training exercises enhances the security of both countries. American police and law enforcement officials have reaped the benefit of close cooperation with Israeli professionals in the areas of domestic counter-terrorism practices and first response to terrorist attacks.
Israel and the United States are drawn together by shared values and shared threats to our well-being.

The proliferation of weapons and nuclear technology across the Middle East and Asia, and the ballistic missile technology to deliver systems across wide areas require cooperation in intelligence, technology and security policy. Terrorism, as well as the origins of financing, training and executing terrorist acts, need to be addressed multilaterally when possible. The dissemination of hatred and support of terrorism by violent extremists in the name of Islam, whether state or non-state actors, must be addressed as a threat to global peace.

In the Middle East, a volatile region so vital to U.S. interests, it would be foolish to disengage - or denigrate - an ally such as Israel.

So what now? The military relationship started when Obama was in diapers. These generals understand war and the soldiers they order into battle.

They know our military and country is not compromised by, or has been victim to - Israel's existence.

Or are all these generals bought out by the muscular Zionists?

I may not agree with Israeli settlement building, but I completely disagree with Obama's policy towards Israel.

Here's to these officers.

I believe Obama is halting sales/shipment of certain military equipment to the Israeli government which has them in a tizzy.

Did Bush ever withhold basic arms shipments to an ally, ever?

Obama is throwing Israel under the bus to win favor with the Muslim world, and he's doing a pretty good job at it.

Hope and change FTW.

No it is more about Obama's statements to and treatment of one of our allies that has them in a tizzy. If you don't think that other countries, friend and foe, are not watching this and the way the Obama administration has treated Great Britain as indicators of just what a feckless ally the US can be you are deluding yourself. Whether it is by deliberate policy or just inexperience remains to be seen.

Obama and Netanyahu: pointless poison

Finally, Obama has added more poison to a U.S.-Israeli relationship that already was at its lowest point in two decades. Tuesday night the White House refused to allow non-official photographers record the president’s meeting with Netanyahu; no statement was issued afterward. Netanyahu is being treated as if he were an unsavory Third World dictator, needed for strategic reasons but conspicuously held at arms length. That is something the rest of the world will be quick to notice and respond to. Just like the Palestinians, European governments cannot be more friendly to an Israeli leader than the United States.

Hillary Clinton slaps Britain in the face over the Falklands

SECRETARY CLINTON: As to the first point, we want very much to encourage both countries to sit down. Now, we cannot make either one do so, but we think it is the right way to proceed. So we will be saying this publicly, as I have been, and we will continue to encourage exactly the kind of discussion across the table that needs to take place.

Hillary Clinton’s statements at this press conference are highly significant, as they demonstrate a clear shift in US policy from neutrality (last week’s position) towards siding with the Argentine position of pressing for negotiations over the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands at the United Nations.

The Secretary of State, a highly skilled political operator, knows exactly what she is doing here. She is giving her full support for the official stance of Buenos Aires, despite the fact that Great Britain has made it clear that the sovereignty of the Falklands is non-negotiable. She makes no reference at all to the fact that Argentina recently threatened a blockade of the Falklands, or that its close ally Venezuela has been threatening war against Britain.

So by advocating the the UK and Argentina negotiate over the Falklands instead of taking up arms she's slapping the UK in the Face? Well maybe according to Murdoch's Lapdog of a Pol Commentator.

As for Netanyahu, it was a rebuke for the rebuke Biden received from Israel. No big deal.

Nile Gardiner is a Washington-based foreign affairs analyst and political commentator. He appears frequently on American and British television and radio, including Fox News Channel, CNN, BBC, Sky News, and NPR.

I wasn't aware that those organizations were all part of Murdoch's holdings not that it matters other than as a deflection away from the main point which is the change in policy stance of the US on the sovereignty of the Falklands as being non-negotiable.

Maybe the pre-emptive strike by the Nobel committee gave him a guilty conscience.

I gotta go with this.

More viral troll crapola from the OP. No surprise that the 'Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs' claims Dick Cheney and John Bolton as advisers.

No politics or agenda there, huh?
