Fifteen companies that might not survive in 2009

I think Chrysler might be too big to fail.

Sbarro?!?! NO, they have the best pizza when you're in NYC!!! /michael scott

Krispy Kreme? I'm suprised they didn't go under soon

Great...my wife is a Realtor with Coldwell Banker. Oh well, she could work for any real estate firm...it would mean we'd have to buy her new signs though...

Rite Aid... NO!!! I cant lose the only pharmacy which takes our prescription plan!!!

Of that list, the only other one I care about is Sirius... I need sattelite radio.

I see some perenial stinkers in there that have have been in trouble for years.

Blockbuster, KK, Sbarro, Six Flags, Sirius, ect. All of them have had solvency issues for years.

sounds like an unhealthy addiction to me. you should seek help, man...

BearingPoint surprises me but, on reflection, I guess it makes sense. Consultants are obscenely expensive, and companies cutting back find the an easy expense to cut.

Ya what about Sirius?? Yahoo reports that they may fail to refinance their debt in 2009.

What pissed me off.. I got a flyer in the mail from XM/Sirius saying that they will increase the online listing fees an addtional $2.99 per month.

This doesn't affect me because I have a 3yr contract with them, but to confirm I called their toll free line to talk about it. The dude said they have a "even better" special price which would be another $399.00 for a LIFETIME contract. Never get a bill again he says.

Then you read stuff like this on Yahoo? Ya right.. I feel that it was their last effort to screw a honest consumer. They already took away channel 82, which was the only reason why I subscribed to XM in the first place.

Thats strike two... Anything else, regardless of their finances, they're sure getting close to loosing yet another customer.

It's not the pizza that's the problem. Many of this chain's 1,100 storefronts are in malls, which is a double whammy: Traffic is down, since consumers have put away their wallets.

This doesn't seem to be the case at my mall. I was there on Saturday and I was blown away by how busy it was. I had to venture away from my usual parking area because there were no open spots. I waited 10 minutes for someone in the right colored shirt to sell me something at the Apple store, and you'd think people wouldn't be willing to pay Apple's premium prices in a recession/depression.

All of those companies can go. I don't know how the hell Blockbuster is even open right now. Netflix blows that shit out of the water.

As a kid I loved Sbarro when I went to the mall with the familia... once I got old enough to be going on my own and paying on my own, Sbarro was dead to me.

This doesn't seem to be the case in many cities that I have been to recently. I'm not saying traffic isn't down, but if it is, I haven't seen any evidence of it.

In the 2 cities I spend the most time, 1 mall is closing and the other is 50% vacant, and leasing space for $100 a month... mostly to artists and various skill instructors. I guess it varies pretty wildly.

I  Six Flags 🙁

Six flags is great, but they run into the fundamental problem: people don't go to parks like that (amusement, museums, etc) more than once or maybe twice a year. It gets boring and repetitive. I live in CT which is an hour from SFNE and I can't bring myself to go there anymore because of the sheer number of times I've been at a once a year frequency.
